Locauto Rent a Car - AVOID RipOff

Avoid at any cost. They will harrass you into buying insurance. Any hairline scratch will cost you $$$$.

Six months after the rental they charged me $57 claiming admin fee for a traffic ticket that never happened. AVOID! Poor customer service. Unethical practices.

How do you know the ticket never happened? If the admin fee just came through it will be followed by the actual ticket now the authorities know where to send it.

And in Italy, it can take 6 months to a year for the fine to come through, via the rental company.

Do you work for a rival company?
I have no idea where Locauto operate, and you don't tell us where or when or what.
I am always suspicious of first time posters who join just to slag off a car rental company.

We won't hear from the OP again . . . But just in case - No, you actually did get a ticket. Either speeding and caught by camera, or more likely driving into a restricted zone which are all over Italy.

It isn't a scam/rip off/unethical

But again -- the OP will never see our responses since he is probably just a hit-and-run ranter

janisj Dec 23rd, 2017 10:49 AM

Oh -- and Locauto is part of Enterprise so no reason to think they are cheating you.

Alec Dec 23rd, 2017 11:43 AM

And I rented from Locauto, local franchise for Enterprise in Italy, last year with no issues whatever. No scrutiny of bodywork on return, and all I had to do was to sign on their tablet confirming the car was returned and there was no damage.

I can't understand how and why they come here with these Europe auto rental issues. And yet they do...

>>I can't understand how and why they come here with these Europe auto rental issues. <<

I can. I have no idea if the OP's complaint is valid. My problem with it is that issues with rental companies often involve specific locations for that company -- some are worse or better than others.

I've rented vehicles all over the world (at one time, mostly for work) and I can say that in general, the service, efficiency and cost are better in the US than elsewhere. That's not to say I haven't had good experiences in Europe, but they've just generally been better in the US.

The insurance issue, I've learned, often is tied to the locale. Some managers put more pressure on (and offer higher commissions to) desk agents to sell insurance.

For anyone interested in the OP's complaint, it might be instructive to note that he/she had a lengthy rant, much of it a diatribe focused on a regular poster on the Italy board, on another trip advisor web site/forum. That post, and the poster's profile (same screen name as on here), has since disappeared.
