Location of Casa Rezzonico & another hotel in Venice Italy...

I am looking at staying at the Casa Rezzonico in Venice, Italy. Is it very far from major sites? If you stayed here, would you recommend to others.
Also looking at Oltre Il Giardino Venezia and wondering about its location to Venice sites. Thank you for any information you can provide.

Venice is very compact, so just about any place is close to major sites. I'm partial to Dorsoduro, so I would pick Casa Rezzonico but you really can't go wrong with either location.

First off, nothing in Venice is very far from anything. You can walk from one end to the other in twenty minutes.

That being said, based on where Google Maps showed Casa Rezonico. It is several blocks within the Dosodoro. There majority of sights are at the grand Canal or on the the other side of the canal or up by the Rialto bridge.

Again there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the location, just pull up two other options and see how those locations compare.

Quite frankly, both look lovely. Casa Rezzonico is very close to Camp santa Margherita in Dorsodura. A very lively spot with shops and restaurants.

The other in San polo near the Frari is also close to spots of interest as well.

Piazza San Marco is probably around a 20 minute walk from either. both will be less crowded.

That's a serious exaggeration and it does not account for a newbie getting lost. San Polo can be a nightmare to figure out on foot, and that's with a good map.

Casa Rezzonico is a very short walk to the Traghetto crossing at Ca'Rezzonico. San Marco is a 10-15 minute walk from there if you walk quickly and you know your way. Accademia Bridge is also a short walk, which provides another way to access San Marco. This walk will also take about 15-20 minutes, if you walk quickly and know the way. Both walks are fun, lovely, and very interesting. One can easily take an hour if you stop and look along the way.

Thank you for the walking distance information. Has anyone stayed at either place? Do you have any favorite restaurants in this area or others in Venice? Thanks again for all your postings.

As the crow flies, Casa Rezzonico is about a mile from Piazza San Marco. [27cm on a 1:5500 map = 1.485km = 0.92miles].
Consideringall the zigzags, and not getting lost, at least a mile and a half. In the heat of summer it will feel longer. To the C'a Rezzonico vaporetto stop is about 400m., about a fifth of a mile and no bridges. To the near end of Campo S. Margherita is about 100m., one bridge. ===gm===

NYCFoodSnob is right on about the time and distance, including that the San Polo district is a maze, at least to me, especially around the Frari where I got (pleasantly) lost last October, though I'd been to the Frari times before. The accommodations aside, it will be a matter of deciding which areas you wish to be closest to. I prefer the San Marco district, or Dorsoduro closer to the Accademia Bridge for centrality, but that's me, and I have not been in Venice in summer, at the height of the crowds.

Oltre Il Giardino is about 400m. due North of the S. Toma vaporetto stop and is reached by a very crooked route including two bridges. I looked for it once, but without good instructions, got lost. Were I to stay there, I would drop off my bags at the Cooperativa Trasbaglia (spelling?) at the South corner of Piazzale Roma and have them deliver them. Pricy, but I have a bad leg and for me it is worth it. Their station is on a little stub of a canal off Rio Nuovo and they have a conveyor for loading their barges. I would like to hear a report on the hotel. ===gm===

I stayed at Casa Rezzonica and loved it. Agree with NYCFS and Elaine about the distance. Loved the Dorsoduro area and the proximetry to the vaporetto. The hotel has a lovely garden for breakfast or relaxing. The owners and staff are very nice and helpful. If you stay there don't miss Ca'Rezzonica (the museum and former home of Robert Browning). It's next to the vaporetta stop.

If you search there have been other very positive posts about it.

If you decide to stay at the Casa Rezzonico, have a drink at the bar Ai Artisti in Campo San Barnaba – or have a coffee and brioche for breakfast there. One of our favourite bars in Venice, with lovely staff.

Or for a pre-dinner drink – try the bar Arancina, near the Ca' Rezzonico, Calle Foscari, 5255 Dorsoduro. Finger food seems to be free, 2.00 for a spritz, and the barman is nice.
