What's your hotel budget? Mike

I'd suggest the 4th thru 7th arrondisements.

Paris neighborhoods are numbered and spiral outward from the center like a snail... so the lower numbers (you can tell by the postal code of the hotel or look at a map) are most central.

Yes - what is your budget and do you want a hotel or an apartment?

But I agree w/ Suze - in general my recommendations would be the 5th or 6th, followed closely by either the 4th or 7th. Any of these neighborhoods would be a great area for a first Paris visit.

Paris is actually not that large a city and getting around is fairly easy. As long as you are relatively close to a metro stop you should be fine. To see the metro stations close to where you are considering, go to http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?lang=en and type in the address. On the resulting list click on "Map". We have come to prefer staying in the 4th or 11th, have also enjoyed the 7th.

thanks for the information. there will 5/6 in our group. Will be visiting a student who will be studying in Paris. My daughter and I have been to Paris before, but only for 3 short days. would like to be a safe touristy neighborhood. One that we could walk in the evening maybe to get a drink or just see Paris lit up. Also are considering the Apartment option. Realizing they will be small is fine. Have traveled a bit and just think that the apartment gives you a little more freedom. No I will not cook, but just ot have beverages and snacks or to just chill after a long day of sightseeing.

We enjoy the 7th arrondissement, but just about any single digit is going to be convenient.
