Location for Home Base in Dordogne Region
We are a family of 2 adults and two 18yr olds traveling to the Dordogne region
of France in mid-June 2011. We will be renting a car with gps. Could you please recommend an area, village, or town that might serve as a perfect home base from which to explore the surrounding sights of this beautiful region? Also hoping to visit Bordeaux. Thank you for any help offered. |
You might look into a web site that will give you a run down on Plus Beaux villages in the area. There is very little that is not beautiful in the Dordogne region. Try this site

Draw a 25K radius around Sarlat - and stay within that radius.

Mr. Stu Dudley what would we do without you?? These forums are in your debt...
|
Agree with Stu. With teenages you may want to stay in Sarlat to give them some freedom to hang out, wander around on their own without needing a car.
|
Sarlat is a good choice, but there are plenty of other decent-size towns where teens could wander around in the evenings and find things to do: St-Cyprien, Le Bugue, Domme, Montignac, to name a few. I agree with the 25-km radius, but I'd say stay away from the eastern half of it.
|
Actually, I'll modify that - about 15 km to the east and 25 km to the west, south, and north.

Thank you so much for your wonderful help. I'm sure I'll have
many more questions before the trip. You really hit the nail on the head. I really want the boys to be able to enjoy themselves and hang out on their own. I can't wait to email you Stu!! |
