Location between Sarlat, Dordogne and Girona, Spain

Hello - Working on our 5 week France/Spain Trip in May and June. We are leaving Sarlat on June 12 and heading to Girona Spain. Initially we thought we'd drive to Toulouse, return our rental car, spend a couple nights and then continue to Girona by train. BUT, it appears there is an UEFA match in Toulouse and hotels prices are double (or more). Any suggestions of another route or a city or small village part way between Sarlat and Girona? Thank you.

I think Stu Dudley suggested Albi on your other thread? That would be my choice!

Thank you, kja. Yes, I posted this and then realized I would be better to add to my earlier thread.

Albi isn't exactly on the way. There are thousands of "small villages." Maybe Agen? I hope this isn't a French rental car being dropped off in Spain - will cost you a king's ransom.

True! But IIRC, the OP originally planned to visit Toulouse, so Albi would, IMO, provide a very reasonable option that would also allow some time in both Albi and Toulouse -- both of which, IMO, merit the time. JMO.

Other interesting stops along the way with places to return the French car & to catch a train to Girona are:
Narbonne
Perpignan
Collioure

Also, bookings.com had several hotels in Toulouse available at a reasonable cost during the AEFA match - but they were selling out fast.

I would choose Collioure.

Just a minute ago, I received an e-mail from "France Today" (a magazine I subscribe to) - and the feature article is....Collioure.
