Location advice

My family of four plan to visit Paris and have not yet decided which apartment to stay:
Citadines Louvre, rue Richelieu
Citadines Saint-Germain-des-Prés, quai des Grans Augustins

Can anyone tell me if there are supermarkets or street markets close to these apartments?
Merci.

I'd go with the one the in Saint Germain..

As far as supermarkets go; there aren't really very many of those in Paris--what we in America know as supermarkets. Most people who live there shop at smaller specialty shops-- a boulangerie for bread, cheese shops, butchers, etc.

Quai des Grands Augustins is a great location - you're looking across to the Cité, there are the bouquinistes all along the riverbank, the Monnaie (mint) to your left, St. Séverin to your right, and the charming rabbit warren of St. Germain behind you, with the American Village Voice Bookshop at 6, rue Princesse for good guidebooks and maps and much more.

I remember seeing substantial (for Paris...) selfservice supermarket-style shops on either Sebastopol or rue du Louvre heading north on the north side of the Cité. Don't worry, locals will quickly direct you - these places are not obvious (because there is no parking reserved for them) but they are there, and the local specialty shops on every street corner will keep you well fed.

There was a nice enough store right on rue St. Severin...for "necessities"
salt, pepper, milk, coffee, t-paper, etc.
Otherwise, what fun to find cheese, wine, baked goods...

Hi O,

You can tour the neighborhood by entering the addresses of your aprs at www.pagesjaunes.fr.

Also look up Monoprix supermarket locations.

You can also look up "hypermarche"

"..As far as supermarkets go; there aren't really very many of those in Paris.."

Nonsense.
There are all kinds of grocers in Paris... Monoprix, Franprix, Ed l'Epicier, Champion...
I put in "supermarche" and "Paris" into PagesJaunes.fr, and got 342 listings. Even if half of those are actually grocers, that's plenty.

Travelnut, I wouldn't say it was nonsense at all. It is much easier to locate a specialty shop (on literally every corner) than a "supermarket".
