Locanda dell'Isola Comacina on Lake Como
If you've been there, what are your impressions. It's a 59 Euro 5-course dinner with wine. Is it worth it? What are your raves/rants. I'm thinking of booking dinner there in mid-May. My wife doesn't drink wine, but I think I can take care of her portion. :-) ((b))

My son did the lunch gig and loved it.
You would like to read his trip report at www.onelittleworld.com--perhaps you have seen it before. |
Budman, we won't be in Lenno until July 3rd so I will be looking forward to see what you think of this dinner. It sounds very entertaining and a lot of fun. I know you will let us know all about it when you return. Thanks!

Bob, Maybe I read the wrong portion of the report. Looks like he left the island before lunch according to his August 2002 report.
If we decide to dine there (right now I plan to), I will report back my experience. ((b)) |

My meal on Isola Comacina was one of the most memorable of my life. The food is simple but well prepared and it just keeps coming and coming. Fantastic. My son-in-law did a nice report on the place in a post here entitled "Four pastas, three fires, someone will wait." Search for it by that title or by his screen name--Candert. I highly recommend it. The wine is pretty well unending, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it, Budman. Have a great time.

I found it. Thanks Julie. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34535275
Looks like this will be fun. Also enjoyed reading his trip report. ((b)) |
Hmmm ! You are right. I must be getting senile--I thought they ate there.

Hi, could I get more opinions about this?
I checked the ferry schedules and it seems like very few boats shop at Isola Comacina. Am I looking at the schedules wrong? How do people go to this restaurant? Is there a boat the restaurant runs? I looked at their webpage: http://www.comacina.it/isola/locanda_location.htm Ok, maybe it's best to call them directly. Thanks! |
I would call directly...as has been mentioned many times on this Forum, Italians are phone people; they do not repsond nearly so well to web contact (and sometimes not at all). If English is spoken at all at the destination in question, it is SO much easier to make telephone arrangements.

We had a great dinner there this past May. I don't think you would be able to get there without a car. We stayed in Lenno and drove a couple of miles down to the marina near the Island. We parked the car and hopped into a little dingy that transports you to/from for a couple of Euro. ((b))

I just called them. No way to get there unless I rent a private boat for dinner. They suggested lunch.
I'll leave it. Thanks. |
