Local transportation in Sorrento, Italy

I will be visiting Sorrento, Italy for five days, and would like some information on the local buses run by EAV in terms of routes/maps for lines A, B, C, D and E, preferably in English.

Where are you wanting to go? Most likely you would use the Sita buses or the Circumvesuviana train.

If you plan to travel a lot during the 5 days, you might consider buying the 3 day Campania Arte Card Tutta La Regione (32€). It includes entrance to 2 sites (Pompeii, etc.) and transport from Naples along the coast all the way to Paestum. There's a 7 day card, but it doesn't include transport.

Scroll down and find the bus you want for the timetable link.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will be in Sorrento in September, and am interested in the local bus going from the Sorrento train station or town center to the Hilton Sorrento Palace hotel in Via S. Antonio 13 to avoid the hike uphill.

Doesn't the Hilton Sorrento Palace have a shuttle up and down the hill? I suggest checking the hotel's website or sending them and email.

They should provide that transportation information to you, even if just for the local bus in town.

I don't see a shuttle listed on the Hilton website. I don't imagine any of the the EAV buses would go to the Hilton as it's on a side street. Perhaps some local city buses.

>>>Sorrento train station or town center to the Hilton Sorrento <<<

If you followed the crowds leaving the train station (they are heading to Corso Italia) and then tried to reach the Hilton, you would have a long trek uphill on Via Fuorimura to reach Via Degli Arancia. Instead, take a left as you come out of the station and go around the side of the station building (watch for taxis pulling in). Via Degli Aranci is right behind the station (will be mostly downhill the direction you would be going). Turn left on Via Parsano and you are almost at the Hilton. If you come to the big curve in Via Degli Aranci, you've gone to far (you will be able to see it). Shouldn't take 10 minutes or so.

At that big curve, you can see the old wall (this is where many hotel shuttles drop/pick -up. At the old wall (Google Old Wall Sorrento and you should find some pics), there is a cut through to the main street (Corso Italia) which is pretty much pedestrian only. This is not steep and easily walked. The hotels drop off there for people wanting to shop, eat, etc.

We stayed @ the Hilton Sorrento Palace last summer.
No shuttle or bus stop, but there's always cabs around.

As kybourbon said, there are ways to avoid steep climbs (except for the final climb to the hotel). We walked it with kids and luggage without issue. 1st time was confusing since there are several curves.

If we did it again, I take a cab the first time uphill with luggage and walk after that (and the concierge can help with directions).

Enjoy your view of the Med & Pompeii over a great breakfast buffet!

Thank you very much for all your suggestions. I look forward to my trip, and will bring a pair of good walking shoes.
