Local Restaurants

Can anyone give me some helpful hints on local restaurants? I will be a tourist but would rather stay off the beaten path.

Yea that would help. Thanks! Amsterdam

I wouldn't admit to anyone I was going to Amsterdam either. We all know why people go there... wink, wink.

I wish people would stop thinking that everyone that goes to Amsterdam is going there to get laid and stoned !!
Many people are, but not everyone. London has coffeeshops now, so does that mean that everyone going to London is only going to get stoned?
If you have been to Amsterdam and you DID NOT get laid or get stoned please reply to Lenny. He needs an education.

Ed Jan 13th, 2003 02:35 PM

Reply - not bad, except the girls all smell a little of mayonnaise and tobacco.

This smells like a troll post - but here goes.

About a klick east of Cental Station is a wonderful Japanese restuarant with good sushi. Take the same trolley as you would take to the museums and hop off when you see the place - I wish I could remember the name.

Reasonably serious reply for Pip... I was in Amsterdam last summer, solo, female, my first trip there. I really liked the neighborhood of Leidseplein (also Vondelpark and the Jordaan) over the central area. The best food I had I found simply walking (walking, walking) around the area of my hotel. Had some excellent Italian from an eat-in or to-go deli style setting. Inexpensive and delicious. Also put a great lunch together from a 'health food' store. Good Greek restaurant a couple nights also. With a cheap bottle of cold white wine from my hotel lobby/bar - I was all set for great dining in my *tiny* hotel room.
