local guides italy

Does anyone know about local tours of cities/attractions in Italy? I thought it might be helpful in some cases (Florence, Venice..) With limited time to spend, perhaps an overview of an area or an intrepreted tour of a museum. I did a search, but came up with escorted tours (Globus, etc.). Any Suggestions? Do these tours need to be reserved in advance? Thanks.

Hi peggy,

Do a text search for "guides AND (city)". There have been threads on the topic.

In any reasonably sized city there will be group tours available - half day or full day or even walking tours of specific areas or sights that you can book on the spot. Your hotel or the town tourist office will have specific info on them. To get info in advance you can check the tourist office of each city on-line. If you want something so unique that you need a personal guide they should be able to help with that also - as can others on this board if you list a specific city/sight.
