Yes, terrine! There are multiple types: porc, duck, rabbit,etc. I tend to like that as my appatizer. Sometimes you will see terrine maison, which is homemade.

It usually comes with some nice sliced pieces of baguette bread. Yum.

I make it a point to drink as much Champagne as possible!

I also need to sample as many pain au chocolat as I can. Bertillon ice cream is worth the wait (salted butter caramel)

I should be careful saying you MUST dip your croissant in your coffee because sure enough, just like some in the US would never dream of dipping their toast in coffee, there are some people in France who would never dip their croissant and consider it bad manners.

I tried dipping my croissant and just really did not like it as I would not like toast dipped in coffee either. But I did read that "the French" like to dip their croissants in coffee. I plugged in "dipping croissants in coffee france" and came up with several web pages that says this is so.

croissants with jam or dipped in a coffee bowl or plain (please do not add
butter !)."

And other said put the butter in the coffee and then dip the croissant.

Now the croissant without butter rule...that is definitely true in the area where I lived, but I love butter, so I don't care. I delight in "unrolling" the croissant and slathering on Le President brand sea salt butter. Sheer heaven. Hold the jam, please, for me.

I used to worry much more about doing things "comme il faut", but am much more decontractee these days, as are the French themselves(compared to 40 years ago!)
