local and regional trains

we will be taking the train from rome to lucca and then to venice and florence and finally back to rome from lucca. will the eurostar tkts be used as discounts to local trains in around the above cities or do we need to purchase the discounted city passes?

Topping this for you.

I am not understanding your routing...are you returning to Lucca from Florence before going back to Rome?

I believe your ES tickets will be good for ES trains only and I rather doubt you can use them for discounts on other trains but others may have better information.

Hi jljb,

ES* tickets are good for one ride on one specific train only.

Have you already bought tickets?

thanks intrepid1 - we will meet friends in lucca that is why we need to go back there before heading south to rome.

for ira, thanks for your info and nope, i have not yet bought the tkts.

Some of your travel will involve changing from an ES train to and R train. Rome/Lucca would involve a change at Florence from and ES train to an R train. Lucca/Florence would likely be an R train also. Or were you talking about a railpass? Railpasses are usually not cost effective for Italy.
