Livorno vs. Lucca vs. sit by pool
My parents are taking a cruise around Italy in a few weeks and they will be making shore excursions at many places. One excursion that they will probably skip is the trip to Florence when the boat stops at Livorno, because they have been to Florence a couple of times before and want a "day off" from touring. Is there anything worth checking out in Livorno itself? Is Lucca worth a trip? I have read mixed reviews of Lucca on this board and not much at all about Livorno itself.

Yes, Lucca is worth visiting. I've never been to Livorno, but I'm sure there must be enough of interest there for a day trip. You can look at some of the tourism websites, e.g., http://www.abctuscany.com/livorno/ I would think that visiting anyplace in Italy is bound to be more interesting than sitting by the pool.

Thanks for your help on this. The parents have decided to go to Lucca but are now trying to find trasportation there. We have found a few car services on the internet, but they seem to be surprisingly expensive. Any suggestions for car services in this area would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone heard of ItalyCarService.IT?
