Somebody suggested getting somebody to have a look at your dryer.
The reason for its inefficiency might because there is a lint build-up around the drum.
This is a major cause of fires and I think that tumble dryers are the most likely household appliance to catch fire.
I should definitely get it checked out.

Always fun to read the difference between the US and the EU!

When I first visited the US I was very surprised about the size and speed of the washer and dryer! Big reason why most EU-dryers take longer, I think, is the fact that they are condense dryers (with no vent to the outside). Traditional dryers have a vent to the outside for the moist and heat air to get away. Condense dryers have tot re-cool the air to get the moist out and re-heat the dry air for drying again. This takes some time!

One other thing; I also am very surprised how something can take longer (for instance HE-washers, condense-dryers, the eco-program on the dishwasher), but still save energy and water! The modern technique!

Have fun the rest of your time in Ireland and please inform us of all you amazements!

Padraig...I know about the elec isssue but half of Intel and HP employees when they came back after a few years stint in the U.S. did just that and apparently there was a place in Dublin that wired, sorted or did something for a reasonable price. They were shipping them over with all their other personal items.

And if I ever get a house I will make sure there is a space for it. I makes life 100% easier.

I read a funny article a while back when a young girl was visiting an older german work colleague and she showed her the prised possesion at home that made her life so easy....a U.S. Washer and Dryer. The author much older now states that she thought at the time she was a bit strange but completely understands now and it makes life easier. I feel like a launderette with all the bloody laundry drying in my apartment!
