Liverpool docks to Manchester
Arriving in Liverpool by ferry from Belfast tomorrow morning at 6:30 a.m. for the big match. Is taxi the best way to travel to Manchester? Or taxi to bus or train? We're headed to the city centre first to pick up tickets and hang out until kick-off.
Any specifics would be greatly appreciated.
Also, 39 Steps was recommended for dinner, but am I right in assuming that it's not exactly a place that welcomes diners wearing jeans?

The ferries from Belfast now use a new terminal in Birkenhead on the other side of the River Mersey from Liverpool. It would best to take a taxi from the terminal to a station - either Birkenhead then change trains in Liverpool, or Liverpool Lime Street via the Mersey road tunnel. For train times, see www.nationalrail.co.uk.

Is Hamilton Square Station walking distance from the terminal? Mapquest has it at 0.6 miles. But I do recall last year we were driving from the city centre of Lpool to the ferry, following the signs for the ferry, which directed us to the old terminal, so I'm skeptical about the mapquest info.

Hi Ann. I would say that the distance from the terminal to Hamilton Square Station was around 1 1/2 miles.
Certainly not walking distance!
Also make sure you're inside the ground in plenty of time due to the heightened security, people will be searched.
Don't want to alarm you but be aware that 10 suspected terrorists (mostly Iraqi's) were arrested in the UK this week due to intelligence received by GCHQ and the NSA. The police have not released detais of the plot, but the Man Utd game,Man City game and the Trafford Centre have all been mentioned as being potential targets.
There will be a large police presence at the game tomorrow but just be extra vigilant.
Enjoy the game.
