Liverpool advice
 

We will be in London for about 10 days and will be taking the train to Liverpool for a weekend. Does anyone have suggestions on accomodations for three in Liverpool?(Husband, wife, and adult daughter) <BR>We are not looking for anything fancy --- just clean and reasonably priced. <BR>

Wow. Is Liverpool really that remote? Has no one out there ever ventured there? <BR>

Tony,I have been to Liverpool many times,but never stayed over night.It is not exactly a big tourist city.Some people might go for Beatle pilgrimages. <BR>I think that you should be able to find reasonable accomodation.Liverpool is a significant buisness city.They would certainly have a Holiday Inn.I would phone the British tourist association and see what they have. <BR>The best thing about Liverpool is the people.They have the best sense of humour.We used to live next door to a Liverpudlian.Everytime we saw him,he would literally make me cry with laughter.The people are very witty.John Lennon was a good example. <BR>Liverpool also have a great football team,but I would think twice about going to a match,especially if they are playing Everton. <BR>Sorry this doesn't really answer your question,but some response is better than no response.

I was in Liverpool a week and a half ago, but I stayed with relatives, so I can't help you with hotels. However, here's the scoop on the train. Virgin West Coast goes to Liverpool. I can't find the phone number but it's easily available once you're in London. Call them. Book in advance with your credit card. They will tell you where to pick up the tickets. If you book exact times for trains there and back it's cheaper than open ended booking. My ticket was £31. It would have been £41 had I left the return trip open ended. The trip takes about 3 hours. Go visit the Anglican and the Catholic Cathedrals. The latter is called the Wigwam. You'll know why when you see it. The Philharmonic Pub is interesting. So is downtown. The Albert Docks have been converted to a very nice shopping area that also includes a Tate Gallery. Have a great time.

P.S. Forgot to add: you'll pick up your tickets at, and travel from Euston Station in London.

Last summer a friend & I spent a few days in Liverpool visiting my aunt. She didn't have enough room to put us up at her house, so we stayed at the Liverpool Moat House. I'm not sure of the prices, but the rooms were comfortable & the buffet breakfast was very good. It is located in the downtown area, very close to the shopping district & Matthew Street (Beatle area). Also, there are some new hotels down near the Albert Dock area that look like they would be comfortable and relatively inexpensive. The prices are at least a little better than in London!

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. Hopefully we will be able to experience that John Lennon type wit first hand in a Liverpool pub!
