Live from Dubrovnik
Just arrived (family of 5) in Dubrovnik after lovely but long ferry ride.
We have spent the morning looking at alternate lodging having been VERY disappointed at the location of our apartment (it is a good 25'30 minute walk down very busy and trafficy street to old town) and seemingly no cafes or anything nearby but big grocery.
With the kids it is nice to be close to pop in and out and allow the grown ups to divide and conquer even if running out for a quick cappucino.
Makes us realiye how GREAT Hvar was in that regard.
Sadly even though we were willing to eat our already paid for apartment, what we are finding in better locations is quite expensive for much less good (100Euro for dingy rooms with slight sea view from one window) So maybe now we stick with what we have, investigate bus and taxi options a little more.
Dubrovnik is of course lovely but even on this late date in September it feels very very crowded and a little disneyland like.
Ok off to go see if maybe we can do just one night closer in at a nice hotel as a splurge.

What's the name of your apartment and where exactly is it located? We leave in less than three weeks and I'm hoping ours is in a good location. Glad you liked Hvar, we're also going there. Can't wait to read about your trip when you return.

SFmaster...I can't agree with the former Argentina for a splurge.....not after having stayed at the nearby Villa Dubrovnik. My suggestion would be three days at the Villa Dubrovnik instead of an apartment near the bus station. Then move on to Cavtat, a few miles south..better selection of better apartments there and between there and Dub. And don't miss the Konavle Dvora restaurant way back in the hills, about ten miles south of the airport. Great experience.

By the way SFM, if you have a chance, take a look at the Villa Dubrovnik. Nada, the lovely manager will even lead you thorugh..the views from the balconies are spectacular, with the Old City looming up. Tell Nada that the writer from California who stayed there last spring, and to whom she graciously shared some old photos of Dub, says hello
