Seaurchin-If you read this
Love the photos. Where are you dining in the clouds...I assume it is a place in Ravello.
I am planning a trip next week and looking at loralei in Sorrento. Were the beds comy? I need a non saggy non lumpy bed..I have a few health problems. Thanks

You got me intrigued. You are all talking about the web cam. Finally someone stated how to see the cam. Well I went to slowtrav.com and clicked on Sorrento web cam. It wants a user code and password. It looks like they want you to use guest for user code and acccess for password but it doesn't work for me. What else do I need to know or do?

HI, here I am! Let's see, we dined in the clouds in two places, one in Potone (across from Ravello) and again in Nocello (waaay above Positano). I can get the names of the places from one of my other threads, they were both excellent restaurants.

Thanks for the compliments about the pictures, I was thinking I should retire these for a while and bring up some others for a change.

I really like the location and the ambiance of the Lorelei, but I really can't vouch for the beds. I don't think they put too much money into the upkeep of the rooms and they are very basic although some of them have beautiful views with porches and the price is good. It is a shame that they don't replace the worn beds and curtains, they could have a goldmine there with a little refurnishing. But if you want a slightly quirky place that is inexpensive I say go for it, I would probably stay there again myself.

For the web cam:

username: guest
password: access

and then you too can become an addict!

I'm here and bored so if you have any questions ask away!

BTW, some of the rooms at the Lorelei might have good beds, but this last trip I was in a bit of a sag of a bed.

Hello seaurchin,
can you tell more about the place to eat in Potone? How did you find it?

Hi jck4 and cuorecalda, I just topped my trip report from Amalfi so you can see some of the restaurants. The one in Pontone is San Giovanni, www.ristorante sangiovanni.com

They have wonderful homemade food and wine, try to sit out under the pergola across the path and you will have views of Ravello, very very romantic.

Cigalechanta, I just accosted him on the street in Positano and we shared some laughs, I had met him once or twice before although I don't think he really remembers. I like our ole' RS.

To get to Pontone you can either take the bus from Amalfi to Ravello and alight at the Bivio di Pontone (Pontone road junction)on the left hand side half way up the the road just past the GIONA ceramic shop after a series of S bends. It can also be reached from Ravello by taking the same bus down to Amalfi and alighting at the Bivio dei Pontone on your right hand side. From the Bivio you walk up the Pontone road which is on an incline then round the left hand bend through two small tunnels and straight in to the aincient village of Pontone. You can get a walking map from the Tourist Office in Ravello that gives exact details of how to get to Pontone on foot. The Ristorante San Giovanni is big favourite with locals and those with a little local knowledge. There are a few bus services on the Amalfi Ravello route that stop at Pontone (WWW.sita-on-line.it)

Thank you for the information, this sounds like just the sort of place I would love to find. If if describe it as "very vary romantic", seaurchin, can you tell me if it is alright to go to a restaurant like that alone, or if you must be part of a couple?

THe San Giovanni is a small family run restaurant with a great lady Chef called Pina and you will be welcomed. It is a non-touristy place with an authentic wood burning Pizza oven and Pontone is a fascinating quiet village. We hike all over the area and it is one of the few local restuarants to be virtually untouched by tourism and relies on its local clientele.

Gerardo and I agree, it is family run and very nice. I was just thinking romantic because you can sit outside above the twinkling lights with the moon, etc. So it will be fine alone too, no one can take the stars away from us! (or you can eat inside!)

Mr_Go, quite a compliment, partna'!

Ciao, I think I led you astray, I just looked at my pictures and I think you were referring to the photo titled dining in clouds, that is not the restaurant in Pontone, it is a quite well known hotel restaurant right in Ravello and I can't think of the name, anyone?

Try the one in Pontone anyway if you can!

Thanks Sea Urchin!!

I appreciate the detailed answers- especially about the saggy beds. I am just not in the best shape for traveling but I'm off the end of the week!

Your pictures are great- I was in Ravello with my mom a couple of years ago - on a tour!- so we only had a limited amount of time. I can't wait to go back and wander around at will. We stayed at the Excellsior in Sorrento and I couldn't get comfy in those beds and that is a really awesome hotel!

Sea Urchin - Would it be nice/convenient/a good walk to walk down from Ravello over to Pontone for lunch?

Yes, I think it would be a good walk looking at the beautiful scenery, Pontone is on the ridge just across the ravine from Ravello.
