L'Isle-Sur-la-Sorgue

Can any of you tell me the approximate cost of a taxi from Avignon to L'Isle-Sur-la-Sorgue?

cigalechanta Dec 4th, 2008 09:45 AM

take the train!
that's what I did.

I don't know but if I had to bet, I'd guess between 35-50 euro. It's almost the same distance as the distance from CDG airport to central Paris. If the taxi rates are a little cheaper down there, which I would think, that would make it at more like 30-35 euro.

oh, FYI, the distance is about 22 km

Thank you all.

I would prefer taking a train, but there does not seem to be one, at least not on the train schedule sites I searched. The closest town with a passenger train station seems to be Avignon. And from there it's a 40 minutes bus ride, which is why I am asking about taxi fares.

There is a train station in l'Isle sur la Sorgue. It is called something like "Pernes/l'Isle". There is an early morning train that gets you to the market on time, I believe.

We drove in to L'Isle-Sur-la-Sorgue, and we wound up leaving our car near the train station. Fairly convenient drop-off point for the market. If you're in Avignon for a while, you might also look at the market in Carpentras.

I had already tried the www.bahn.de site for train schedules. The only town it shows starting with "L'Isle sur" is L'Isle sur le Doubs, with an approximate 6 hour travel time from Avignon. I doubt it is the same town as L'Isle-Sur-la-Sorgue.

I know there is a train station in L'Isle-Sur-la-Sorgue, but I think it may be used only for freight trains, not for passsenger travel. If any of you have actually taken this train from Avignon to L'Isle-Sur-la-Sorgue, I would appreciate it if you would let me know.

Joyce - did you click the URL I Posted???????.

It shows the name of the l'Isle sur la Sorgue station (l'Isle-Fontaine-d-V), and also the train schedules from Avignon.

I took the train from Avignon and it took me directly to Isle.
Incidently, one of the best restaurants
Le Jardin du Quai is by the station

We took the train from Avignon Centre to "L'Isle Sur Sorge/Ftne e Vau" this past October, very early on a Sunday morning(7:22AM, arriving L'Isle 7:48AM) We got the schedule at the Avignon train station, inside the area where you buy tickets. The schedule I saved says "Marseille-Salon-Cavaillon-Avignon" (and has the Avignon-Marseilles direction on the reverse.)
I'm assuming you want to go for the Sunday market, right?

We also took the train, last summer, for the market on Thursday from Avignon. It took less than half an hour, even with the counter-intuitive going south first towards Marseilles. The station was only about a five- ten minute walk from the very outskirts of where the market was starting to set up. We arrived really early- like 7:30ish. There is also a bus, I believe. In Avignon the bus and train stations are basically side- by- side.
