Lisbon walkabiltiy???
Was wondering if I needed to get a travel card for public transport in Lisbon ..we are arriving in a rental car and leaving Lisbon by bus...our hotel is a 5 minute walk east to the Baixa chiado metro station so not sure if we are central to the majority of the sights...we will be taking day trips to Cascais and Sintra by train....was wondering if we (active seniors) would need to get a card for our 6 day stay to get us to and from sights using Metro, buses, etc, or if it is more cost efficient to just purchase single tickets. Thanks for any advice you can give.

You might consider the Viva Viagem transit card, which you can load as needed. However, we found it difficult to guess how much we might need.
https://www.portugalvisitor.com/port...el/viva-viagem As we exited the train at the airport on our day of departure, there was an entrepreneurial type collecting cards with unused balances. Smart dude. |
We found uber or bolt ridiculously cheap in Lisbon and pretty much used them all the time.
We also bought the transit card |
We could never figure out how to use the Metro in Lisbon but we did take a tram from Rossio Square near where we were staying to the area with the monastery and the monument to the explorers and the famous pastry shop.

Yes Belem
It was close to midnight when I was posting and I couldn't come up with name of the area. The tram we took by the way was modern, not one of the historic trams that are rife with pickpockets. |
Lisbon is one of the hilliest cities I have visited,
Comfortable shoes are a must. |
The modern tram 15 that takes visitors on a journey along the riverside to Belém can also be prime pickpocket territory. Just watch your belongings carefully on all the trams.
https://lisbongo.com/lisbon-trams-guide/. Like Melnq8, I purchase a ViaViagem card, use the ¨zapping¨mode and just top it off as I need to. |
This is an explanation of how to do "zapping" with the Lisbon ViVA Viagem card
