Lisbon stay - Olissippo Lapa Palace vs NH Collection Lisboa Liberdade
 

One more item for the Lisbon stay... Ive been planning forever!!! And its getting close!!! Leaving in about 2 weeks. Have all the hotels down and them some. We need 2 rooms regardless of where we stay.

A lot of the recommended hotels that folks love are not available for my dates - like the Hotel Avienda Palace.

I have 2 hotels on hold.....

1. Olissippo Lapa Palace - Rua do Pau da Bandeira, 4, Lisbon,

Hotel is more expensive - but we get the AMEX fine hotel perks. But reviews say its not walkable to anything and its dated. But AMEX still gives it its fine hotels rating.


2. NH Collection Lisboa Liberdade - Avda. da Liberdade, 180 B, 1250-146 Lisbon

Seems like a better location - property was supposedly renovated, gets pretty good reviews, but no perks and probably not as nice.

Anyone have any thoughts??
Don't judge me - but I am a sucker for a really really nice hotel. Normally I'm able to get amazing hotels on points - but its not working out for this vacation.

Mrs. kvick and I haven't stayed at the Lisboa Liberdade, but were at the Lapa Palace in October. Our room was everything we could reasonably expect from a fine hotel and was certainly not dated. That applies to common areas as well, but I can't speak for every room.

The grounds were very nice, so much so that on our last day in Lisbon we opted to stay on site rather than wade into the fray. If you leave in two weeks though, that's moot; it's going to be too cool to enjoy sitting outside.

Other than buffet-style breakfasts, which surprisingly were excellent, we had only a light lunch there, so I can't speak for the restaurant. They had a good wine list, though.

As far as not being walkable, that is true; you would need to take a short taxi ride to reach "the action."

Stay on Ave. Liberdade, much better location thus a better Lisbon eperience.

Olissippo Lapa Palace is one of the nicest luxury hotels you'll stumble across, and always my first choice for luxury, comfort and style in Lisbon. It's a member of the Leading Hotels of the World and near where most of the Embassys are located. Nice neighborhood!

No, it is not walkable to most of the tourist spots you may want to visit, but hey, if you can afford to stay there, taxis in Lisbon are inexpensive and the drivers know where the hotel is.

The NH Collection Lisboa Liberdade is also very nice. Great location, but then again, you'll be taking a taxi or other means of transportation if you heading out to all of the normal tourist destinations.

My husband and I have stayed at NH Liberdade and the location was great. The Avenida metro station is right in front. We caught a taxi from the airport to the hotel, but there was no need because the Aerobus stop is right in front, too. To take a taxi, we just walked out to the curb and flagged one down.

Lots of restaurants around. It's walking distance to Praça dos Restauradores and Rossio train station (train to Sintra), and the walk is flat.

After we arrived, they delivered some custard tarts ("pastel de nata") and a small bottle of port to the room. It was a nice touch.

Avenida da Liberdade is a tree-lined boulevard. The roadway is in the middle and is flanked by pedestrian walkways decorated with gardens and statues. It's lively at night (but not too much so). There are lots of high end shops along here this street, Louis Vuitton on one side hotel, Gucci on the other. NH Liberdade is set back from the street, so quiet.

On our last trip we tried to stay there again but it was full, so we stayed nearby (two cobblestoned blocks up from Avenida metro station) at Hotel Eurostars das Letras. That was nice as well.

I don't know the hotels, but Liberdae is a lovely avenue., walkable and elegant.
Also , it is flat ...a rarity in a VERY hilly city .

While Avenida da Liberdade is flatter compared with many other streets, there is definitely an incline/decline. I can attest to this fact as I run the 10K São Silvestre Lisboa race every year, and Kms (approx) 7 thru 8.5 sadistically run up the Avenida!

Flat, only in comparison to other parts of the city.

Avenida da Liberdade is NOT flat at all lol The average gradient is above 4,6%.

It's not a rarity at all to find in Lisbon several avenues 100% or almost flat.

It's flat enough! I have a bad knee, and traveled to Lisbon shortly after injuring it, and had no problems on Avenida da Liberdade. What's more, the metro's right there and many taxis stop along here. It's a great location.

I don't know Lisbon well but in the touristy part of the city,
Liberdade is one of the places I liked very much regardless of its " flatness".

I walked to Gulbenkian through the lovely park and residential areas beyond..
Lisbon seems to be spread much further than the usually visited parts of the city.

Don't get too carried away here Lisbon_Eagle. Lisbon is well known, famous for its seven hills, otherwise the Ascensor da Glória wouldn't exist. Few tourist venture much beyond the main areas of the city, in which some of the streets can be quite steep. Although it's not as demanding as Porto.

We recently had dinner at Tapisco, which was only a short walk from our hotel just off Avenida da Liberdade, but the map didn't note that the walk was almost straight uphill, a steep walk no matter which route one chose. At least there where stairs you could climb at one point, but a Funicular whould have come in handy.

Any feedback on FonteCruz Hotel as far as rooms, restaurants etc? We are there for a week in late May, early June.

The rooms are fine, it's a Marriott. Good location. The lobbly can be a bit dark, something trendy? You may need a flashlight to find your way around.

My friends stayed at the Four Seasons last December and liked it very much. Just an idea. Lapa Palace sounds great, though. Taxis are very reasonable.

I stayed a few minutes from the FS , I think it is the Intercontinental now.
It is next to a lovely park at the end of Liberdade.
I liked walking " down" Liberdade, but also used metro and taxis.

Going to Lisbon in late Apr. Would love to find a hotel for 100-125 euro/night. Central, walkable location. Thank you in advance.

Both Hotels are very good but they aren't in the same league, 1st one it's a five stars hotel in a old palace, the 2nd one is a 4 stars in a new building.
Regarding location,the 2nd one certainly has a much better location since is located in the main avenue with all the luxury shops around it. Can't be more central than that.
The Olissipo Lapa Palace is also well located, in Lapa district, a residential area, very "posh", and not that far away from the main city plaza (more or less 2 km). Lots of public transports available, but not metro). You be right next to the Old art museum, and Estrela Church. Madonna will be your neighbor :)
