Lisbon rent a car

hello, anyone could recomend a rent car company in Lisbon? Will be there in July tks James Baker

Hi James, Last year, we rented a car using Autoeurope, but the actual rental company was Avis. We picked the car up in downtown Lisbon because it was a good bit cheaper than picking the car up at the airport, and we were downtown anyway. The drive out of Lisbon was straightforward -- and not too hair-raising. Autoeurope is a great company; we've used them every time.

I have used twice www.specialfares.com The owner of Specialfares.com works directly for one of the biggest car rentals company there. Is not a broker as a most people thing.Their service is just the best that I have seen and I do travel alot. They are not the cheapeast around since they have desks inside the airports. And best of all they never require payment upfront. on our last trip I had lost all my travel documents and had no credit cards. They allow me to pay after I return home. Outstanding! As Claudia mention before this guys also charge less for downtown deliver but we have use their free service to the hotel there. They never charge us for the hotel delivery as some companies do. We were in Lisbon in April. We rented a car from "Auto Jardim do Algarve - Automoveis de Aluzuer, S.A." I think it was called just Auto Jardim. We asked the desk clerk at our hotel & she made the reservation for us. It was $50US equivalent per day, unlimited miles, and we filled the tank upon return. The internet rental companies I saw were quoting much higher than $50/day. We picked it up in Estoril and returned it to the Lisbon airport. It was a great little car. Most seemed to be stick shift, if that matters to you. Don't necessarily trust the maps. When we drove from Lisbon to the Algarve, all the maps showed a new interstate that wasn't really complete. If you plan on visiting Estoril/Cascais you might consider what we did. Take a taxi to the train station, then a train to Estoril/Cascais. You don't really need a car in E/C. They are within easy walking distance (along the beach wall) of each other and all the attractions are in walking distance. We also took the local bus to Sintra for a day visit. The narrow road with hairpin turns was best traveled by bus. We avoided renting a car for the first 3 days by doing the train/bus trip. Then picked up a car for the trip to the Algarve. Turning the car in at the airport was a bit confusing, at least for us. So plan a few extra minutes to circle twice before you can spot the car return sign. I hope you have a wonderful trip to Portugal. If you go to Estoril, you MUST see the lazer light show in the outdoor fountain of the casino garden. I highly recommend the Mandarin restaurant in front of the fountain. Excellent food & not expensive. As for Carlos (the asst. mgr in the Mandarin) and he will give you incredible personal service.
