Lisbon-recommendations for excellent eateries.
Hello,
We've been to Lisbon and absolutely loved it yet we were somewhat disappointed by the food. Most places we tried in the city centre were average at best. The only excellent meal we had was at Pharmacia restaurant.
I've seen many posts where people rave about the food in Lisbon and was hoping to get some recommendations from anyone who tried a place and loved it. We're open to all kinds of cuisine. I'm taking notes for our next trip which would probably include Porto.
thanks so much

For fine dining, I had lunch at Enoteca de Belém in Lisbon, which was very good and quiet and not expensive. For common food I ate at Cerveceria 100 Montaditos, which is a chain of tapas restaurant that serve Portuguese food, cheap and tasty. The "Pasteis de Belem" doesn't disappoint either, their egg tart is the best of its kind.

It's sad that I didn't know about most of these options.
I love tapas and Portuguese style chicken-I am taking a note of this.
Thank you both very much.
We did go to Belem and tried the Patei de Nata there, we loved them almost as much as those we got from "Manteigaria" in Chiado.

We ate whole grilled fish at pretty much, a literal hole in the wall near the tile museum. I think the name was "taxi driver restaurant". Now I don't urge you to seek out that particular place (it is very simple) but if you like fish, I would look for perhaps a humble place that offered it. It might be like even an outdoor place with a large grill nearby.
Oh I just noticed your mention of Porto - yes, that was where we first had this delicious meal - out by the water where the cruise ships dock. There is a street that runs along the area where there are several outdoor restaurants with grills. It was one of our best meals ever! but you have to be able to deal with whole fish - they cut it open for you but do not filet out the bones. But it is so delicious and worth it!
