Lisbon, Portugal
Our group of six is heading to Lisbon for a cruise April 25 and after the cruise we are trying to rent a Van to get around.
How and where would we rent a Van when we get off the cruise we are stay in Lisbon for a few days. Thanks Scott |
I must admit that I would not recommend renting any kind of vehicle for your time in Lisbon. Between the hills and the narrowness of the roads and the lack of parking, it would seem a serious hassle to have a vehicle -- and a van would be even more problematic because of its size.
There is good public transportation in Lisbon and IME, taxis are widely available and extremely affordable. |
Thanks so much we will be staying between Lisbon and Porto and would like to travel around to different Vineyard and so on.
You think we can do that without a Vehicle. Scott |
Well then, that's a very different question!
Whether you would need to rent a vehicle depends on where, exactly, you plan to stay and what you hope to see. It would seem that you would benefit enormously from a good guidebook or two. For specific point-to-point transportation options, consult rome2rio.com -- be sure to click through to the underlying links. Many of the vineyards in and around the Duoro Valley can be reached by public transportation, a bonus since your driver(s) can do more than a sip-and-spit tasting. If you do decide to rent a vehicle, plan accordingly -- parking in most cities is extremely limited and their roads are not well suited to large vans. (Major interstates are, of course, fine.) Consider two smaller vehicles rather than a van. Whichever option you choose, make sure you have enough space for your luggage. Don't pick up the rental(s) until you leave Lisbon; leave them off as soon as you reach Porto. |
Thanks, some great information.
