Lisbon hotel, Sofitel Liberdade or ???
Hello all,
We are planning a trip for next summer to Lisbon. We have around 6 nights and like to stay in a 4-5 star hotel for under 200 euros/night. I had initially chosen Sofitel Liberdade but open to other options. Looking for a hotel in safe area with sound-proofing and is centrally located with dinning options that are preferably open late at night. We love to walk so hopefully we can walk around day or night from hotel. We are a young couple and we'll be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. Thanks a lot |
My favorite place to stay in Lisbon is the Avenida Palace. It is a great location, classy and near several good restaurants. Make sure that you go to the Fado one night - they will make arrangements.

Just out of curiousity, where do you book the Sofitel Liberdade for under 200 € in summer?

Ooops, should be curiosity, I guess. Not a native speaker...:(

I stayed in the Avenida Palace last year as well and higly recommend it too. I was able to get a great deal using hotel.com or bookings.com, forget which one. The Sofitel looks nice, i passed it on a few ocassions as it's a few blocks up the road. Have a great time

Thanks for the replies. Is the area around Sofitel Liberdade safe at night, can we walk to and from places? There were comments on this forum before about the safety of Lisbon.
Any insights? |
The Sofitel is on the main drag of Lisbon (Avenido de Liberdade). It's a safe and convenient area, wlkabale to many things and near public transportation, as well as the train station. We stayed at a hotel a couple of blocks from there, also on Liberdade. I haven't been in the rooms but did eat in the restaurant, which was very good. From what I could see, the hotel looked very nice. Overall we felt very safe in Lisbon.

Thanks MFYC. We are very excited as we heard a lot of great things about Lisbon from fodorites.

I would highly recommend the Sofitel! My husband and I stayed there for 3 nights this past July. A small boutique hotel, quiet bar to unwind at the end of the day and lovely rooms. It is also a good location, walking distance to almost anywhere if you are fit and ready to explore on foot. We loved Lisbon and would return on a heartbeat! It was our launching point to a 14 day tour of Portugal.
