Lisbon hotel opinion
I'm searching for a hotel for my parents first trip to Lisbon. They're in their 70s and a flat area near transportation would be ideal. We would need a room that could accommodate 3 adults. I've read the Baixa area is good for first-time travelers. I'm curious if there are any pros/cons in selecting accommodation closer to the coast versus further north and closer to Marques de Pombal (or anywhere in between)?
From my initial search, I've found the following hotels have availability on our travel dates and are in budget. Any opinions on these? Any alternatives I should consider? BessaHotel Liberdade Blue Liberdade Hotel My Story Hotel (Rossio or Augusta) Exe Liberdade Altis Suites |
I prefer a hotel on the south end of Avenida da Liberdade, but....not as far north as the Marqués de Pombal at the square, close to Eduardo VII park, which requires a constant, gradual but steep hill climb. Taxis, Ubers, Bolts and tuk tuks are available, but for your parents on a short visit it makes more sense, ime, to be more central and not as far north but yet not in the hubbub, constant stream of humanity of the river area (especially during high season and cruise season, which is busy both in spring, summer and fall).
This area of the southern end of Avenida da Liberdade where it meets Rossio (otherwise known as Praça Dom Pedro IV), is still relatively flat but yet not in the hubbub of the often teeming and crowded Baixa, closer to the water and to the huge Praça de Comércio/Terreiro do Paço, the huge gateway to the city.. So, in your list, I might consider pretty much everything but with the My Story hotels, I would opt for the one on Rossio rather than Augusta. The attractive Blue Liberdade, with high reviews, has the very popular Restaurante Pinóquio downstairs, and the Bessa Hotel Liberdade also gets high reviews and only a block from Rossio square. |
This is wonderful information, thank you. I chose a city view room at the Blue Liberdade. I think my parents will really enjoy seeing a view of the city in the morning and evening.

I enjoyed One Palacioda Anunciada (H10) Hotel. Staff very helpful with restaurant booking and site seeing. Breakfast was delicious and a comfortable outside bar onsite. I’m not sure about the view but location was convenient.

Thank you for the suggestion. I looked at The One Palácio da Anunciada, but unfortunately it is far outside our price range - upwards of 4,000 euros for our travel days!

That’s pricey. I visited 2023 and their website had special offers with a good discount.

Enjoy dinner st Pinoquio!

Yes, enjoy dinner at Pinóquio. The Blue Liberdade, among your choices, would have been my choice.
The H10 One Palácio Anunciada is a beautiful hotel on a quiet side street running parallel to the Avenida da Liberdade (I've toured it and friends have stayed there), but the 5-star Lisbon hotels have really increased in price this year. |
That's a very good choice .I've been there and it will not dissapoint you

I stayed at My Story Rossio while in Lisbon last year. Staff was helpful and courteous. Loved the location of the hotel. Close to metro and train station. Would not hesitate to stay there again.
