Hi thursdays,
Thanks for the links. They are very helpful. I think train or bus makes the most sense. If we were to fly, it seems like we would have to backtrack and fly from Seville to Barcelona to get to Lisbon. Seems silly to do this. Just curious, do you know why this is?

PeaceOut, I enjoyed your trip report. My daughter spent a day in Lisbon several years ago enroute from Barcelona back to the U.S., and she loved what she saw. I would love to combine a trip to Andalucia with Portugal. Hope to do that in the not too distant future.

Relations between Portugal and Spain were extremely bad for a very long time. The transport links, or rather lack thereof, still reflect that.

Kwoo, Lisbon is a treat. I hope you get there.
Thanks for the info, thursdaysd

Thanks for sharing your experiences PeacOut... We're coming from California and going to Madrid, Lisbon and Morocco next month!

We'll be staying in Lisbon the longest (4 days), so I got a lot of good info from you and the others on here! Thanks everyone!

Will post our travels up on here!

Peace Out! Ha!

Jaypzl.. You will love LIS and MAD.. Morocco I could do without but we only were in Tangiers and I hope that is not a good representation of the country!! If you don't have your hotels in LIS yet check out pousadas.pt ( Queluz, Setabul pousadas and Pestana Palace.) There are some super bargins out there and these are 5*.

JP, have fun in Lisbon!
As I posted above, the Avenida Palace is a great hotel in a great location.
We were charmed by Lisbon.

Hi PeaceOut,

My husband and I will be spending 4 days in Lisbon in mid-July. We are discussing whether or not to stay in the city center or in the coastal town of Cascais. We will be spending the first 10 days in other European cities, and are deciding if we should opt for a destination outside of city limits. If we do decide to stay in the city, your glowing comments about the Hotel Avenida Palace have certainly made that a front runner!

What public transportation is available linking the two destinations (Cascais and Lisbon) and what would you recommend? You mentioned in your original post that you took day trips by train. Do you remember how long the train ride was between Lisbon and Cascais?

Thanks!

gracied, as I recall it was maybe 40 minutes. I think it runs fairly regularly.

Cascais is a cute little place, but four days might be too long there.
