lisbon accomodation

looking in several hotel sites i really cannot take a decision .im confused with so many hotels and rates(i thought that lisbon had cheaper hotels than my city, athens)
instead of staying in the youth hostel of lisbon i d like a better option.cold you possibly reccomend me a clean ,simple hotel with less than 70euro (double room)?
do you think is wiser to book it via internet or can i find better prices if i go their and ask for a room?
thank you very much ,any information would be so useful for me ,bye!

Regarding your choice -not staying at an youth hostel- i understand that you're looking for something basic. If i got it right you may find that at any Ibis Hotel here.Although I'll recommend the one at Av. Casal Ribeiro (Hotel Ibis Lisboa Saldanha (phone# 213191690,fax:213191699,mail:[email protected]),only because it's centrally located, close to the subway. They are all equal in decoration -spartan- but they're clean. These hotels are the cheaper "side" of the Accor chain (Meridien,etc.).You also can try what's called a "Pensao",but as you mentioned you've been searching the internet i assume you haven't find anything that match your criteria.
Usually i recommend this site for hotels:www.maisturismo.pt
Feel free to post again if you need some more info.
P.S- When are you going to Lisbon? As you know rates are quite different depending on the the time of the year.
Regarding the booking,i'd choose checking the net, travel agency and faxing the hotel.Just arriving at the hotel you'd get the rack rate, wich means you'd be charged a lot more.

I would highly recommend Flamingo hotel, about 75 EUR for a spotless double room and a good breakfast, I stayed there and it was excellent, you can also check it's description here on Fodors site.

Firstly,i would like to thank you for the information.
im coming in 22 - 25 of august ,rates must be higher then surely.i have seen the IBIS HOTEL on the net and FLAMINGO too but for august the rates areabove 70euro per double.it is much for me !in Paris i managed to find 2 central clean hotels "ideal hotel" and "hotel suez"(at least they had some good reviews )with 65 euro per night!however ,in Lisbon i find it hard to find a double with 65 euro.i will check again IBIS and FLAMINGO about rates in case iam wrong.
and another thing ,in LISBON youth hostel there are some doubles with 42euro per night in the high season including shower and toilet inside the room.the youth hostel is centrally located ,what do you think about it?it sounds good but will it be clean???...
thats all for me now.i hope to receive a reply from you soon !
best regards,AKIS ,GREECE

Was just in Lisbon and stayed at the Residentia Roma-our best value of 3 weeks in Spain and Portugal. I think it was less than 50 euros and included a great breakfast-lots of coffee, rolls, ham, cheese and juice. And the location was good, with parking for our rental car right next door.

We have just returned from Portugal, it was wonderful !
In Lisbon we stayed at the Residencial Florecsente in the Baxia area, downtown, we paid 60 euros with breakfast, very clean the renovated rooms are exceptional !
