Lira still good?

We have some lira.........will anyone take it in Italy anymore?

LoveItaly May 14th, 2005 10:24 AM

Hi anavert, my understanding is that some banks in Italy will accept paper lira but not the coins. Take it with you and check with your hotel on your arrival. They should be able to advise you. I have a lot of lira too - but for sentimental reasons decided not to part with it.

My travel books said that the time frame to exchange it has expired.

Hi marci, just out of curiosity, does your guide book say when certain banks in Italy stopped accepting the lira? Just wondering as I got thinking after reading this thread that maybe I should take some of the lira back to Italy, I have a lot of it. Thank you.

Everything you ever wanted to know, and more, about the euro -- from the official website:

the page dealing with conversion timetables:

anavert,
Bank of Italy will change lira to euro for about 6 more years. See http://www.bancaditalia.it/filiali;i...on?LANGUAGE=it for a list of locations (click on general information a scroll down)

Thanks S_Holmes and Henry.

OK anavert, we got some good answers.
Think maybe I will go through my lira and exchange some (if it is worth it).

Happy weekend everyone!
