Liquid Restrictions in Carry on Baggage
 

Just wondering because I haven't seen a recent post, are there still liquid carry on restrictions in Europe? In March we will be flying to Botswana via Johannesburg, London and Frankfurt and would prefer to carry our bags on vs checking them in due to our convoluted route. As well, how militant is Lufthansa with it's carry on regulations? I see they allow one carry-on, maximum 8 lbs. I've carried on two bags before on many different airlines and never had a problem but I've never flown with Lufthansa. Many thanks!

Yes, there are. In fact, they began in November for the whole EU and I don't think they are going to change them shortly. Between the norms, there is one that you can only have one carry on.

Many of hte European airlines now limit you to 1 carry-on bag, so that's not unusual. Airlines that limit carry-ons are pretty strict, but I can't speak personally about Lufthansa. And the EU does have about the same restrictions on liquids as the US ... and the same thing with the stupid bag, though their size limits are 100ml rather than 3 oz.

FYI: 100 ml is 3 ounces plus 10 ml (1/3 of a teaspoon) so the difference in size limits is minimal.

Actually 10 ml is 2/3 of a TABLEspoonful or 2 teaspoonsful.

The key issue is the rules that governments make.

The UK enforces its one, 56cm x 45 x 25, carry-on bag rule rigidly on all flights from any UK airport. In practice, if you're changing in London, that means you have to follow this for your whole journey.
