Linking to other threads

Hi all,

Often folks top a useful thread for someone. However, the topped thread can easily disappear on a busy day.

I suggest that you copy a link to the other thread on the thread of interest.

You can do this by going to the "target" thread, RIGHT clicking on the title, clicking "copy short cut", going back to the original thread, posting a reply, and keying "CTRL + V" to paste the link.

Thanks, Ira. That's a great little tidbit of info to know. I know I regularly top threads for people, but yours is a better idea.

I appreciate that tip, ira. I never did bother to take the time to learn how to do that, and it's a useful thing to know!

I've always wondered how people did that. Thanks, Ira.

Just one thing to add to Ira's very useful tip, for those of us who don't do Windows:

If you use a Mac and don't have a 2-button mouse, you can accomplish the same thing by holding down the Control key while you click on the thread title.

Yes, thanks, ira. This is so useful, it now makes me chuckle when I was viewed as a (mildly) lunatic crusader, urging on just about every other post that fodors needed to adopt something like this - - I proposed that every post ought to have a unique "timestamp" so that it could be specifically and easily located.

See http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...mp;tid=1286331

Best wishes,

Rex

Now we can shamelessly "advertise" by sneaking links to our own postings into other threads

Thanks Ira. When a question comes up that I've already answered several times, I can now link to a previous post, instead of typing the same answer over and over and over again. This will save me time, and perhaps I'll be more inclined to answer some of those, "oh no, not THIS question again" posts. Peace. >-

I'm going to top this by responding.

Alternatively, what I do is to use the right click and then do "Open in New Window." Then I highlight the entire URL and delete the extraneous stuff after tid=xxxxxxx . (Everything starting with &numresponses etc. can be deleted.)

Then I highlight the whole URL again.

It's a little more laborious, but the advantage is that the thread takes up the entire new window. Ira's method will have the thread of interest display in the right panel.

I'll also link this to the Paris Superthread.
