Lille restaurants

I am spending 4 days in Lille France (business). Does anyone know of any special food opportunities there?
Thanks

Hi jan,

Have you tried www.google.com and entered "Lille France Restaurants"?

I'm also interested in this topic since we'll be spending 5 days and nights in Lille in October. As I'm sure you know, the regional fare includes a lot of Flemish specialties, i.e carbonade, flamande, potjevleesh, and waterzooï, as well as fish, given its proximity to the sea. I've been reading articles on Lille for months and have checked my favorite sources for restaurant recommendations. The following is my list of restaurant notes based on our particular tastes, where we'll be staying, and what we plan to do. Obviously we won't be trying them all. In my shorthand, "Mich" is the Red Michelin guide and "GM" is Gault Millau.

Bistrot de Pierrot. Mich fork. Cadogan, GM 12. 6 pl Béthune - near the Musée des Beauz Arts. 03 20 57 14 09. Small & atmospheric - good regional food. Cl Sun

La Cave aux Fioles. 39 r de Gand. 03 20 55 18 43 Great Vieux Lille restaurant in an 18th c. bldg. Cl Sat L & Sun. www.cave-aux-fioles.fr Book in advance. Can email from website.

Les Compagnons de la Grappe. Routard. 22, rue Lepelletier. 03 20 21 02 70. Hidden in a narrow passage, one of the nicest restos in Lille - terrace & 2 dining rooms with paneling and designer lighting. Bistro classics with a modern twist. Wines by the glass. M: 20€; lun 9.50€. Cl Sun.

Le Coq Hardi . 44 Pl du Général de Gaulle, 03 20 55 21 08. This brasserie is a Lille institution. Book in advance.

L'Ecume des Mers. Mich 2 forks. 10 rue de Pas. 03 20 54 95 40. Traditional seafood - offshoot of L'Huitière. Cl Sun nights. M: (L) 15€; (D) 20€.

A L'Huitière. Mich * 4 forks. GM 16. 3 rue des Chats Bossus. 03 20 55 43 41. Pricey Art Deco seafood restaurant in Lille, at the back of the fish store.

Brasserie de la Paix. Mich 2 forks. 25 pl Rihour. 03 20 54 70 41. Most distinguished of the brasseries around the Place Rihour. Good mussels. Cl Sun M 15€.

Restaurant Le Square. Routard. GM 12. 52 rue Basse 03 20 74 16 17. Pleasant & intimate with friendly service, warm or cold salads, & generous regional dishes (scallops, snails, duck) that change with the seasons. M: 9.45€ - 22.90€

La Terrasse des Remparts. Cadogan pick. GM 14. Logis de la Porte de Gand. Ph : 03 20 06 74 74. Open daily. Delightful food - French with international touches - in historic surroundings. Menu: € 15 - 25

Le Varbet. 2 forks. GM15. 2 rue de Pas, 03 20 57 55 18. Noted for local specialities such as flamiche (tart with Maroilles cheese) and waterzoi (chicken or fish stew). Cl Sun & Mon. M: 38 - 73€.

Does anyone have any first-hand dining experiences at any of these?

I don't but we were on our way and got side tracked as we usually do but A L'Huitriere was my top place to stop because we love seafood, and it's locatd on a street in French that means, street of the hunchbacked cats.
The tiles in the fish market are said to be stunning.
