Light dinner in Venice - for 7 people
I wrote a bit about my planned travel to Venice, St. Jeannet, FR and Paris in July with my school friends (of 40 years ago). We have finalized all plans and everything is looking good. We arrive in Venice on the morning of July 5th and leave VERY early morning on the 7th. This is just a "quick taste" of Venice for those who haven't been. The hub and I have been a few times.
This is a group who doesn't want to spend a lot of money but would enjoy a simple pasta or pizza dinner with beer and wine or first night in Venice. Can't ask a concierge as we've rented an apartment. Can anyone make a suggestion, keeping in mind that it's the height of tourist season and we are a group of 7? I don't mind winging it much of this trip, but the first night after arrival I think we should have something buttoned down. Thanks!! |
Since you said pizza perhaps Al Nono Risotro or one of the Muro places?
|
Sorry - should have previewed - "Al Nono Risorto"

I like the both Al Nono Risorto and Muro Pizza. Another good pizza option with plenty of room is Ae Oche.

It also depends on where you are in Venice. There certainly are many local neighborhood pizza / pasta places throughout Venice.
Given how short the time is for your visit, I would call it almost no taste of Venice. |
Thanks so much for the recommendations. I'll check them out. Still open to others, as well...
Rastaguytoday: Cheap Easyjet flight = why not. |
We dropped by Ae Oche on our trip in April, it would be good for your group. Taverna San Trovaso is also a moderately priced choice.
|
Thanks, socaltraveler--adding Taverna San Trovaso.

Hi
What sestiere are you staying in? |
worldinabag, San Marco. The vaparetto stop is San Marco Vallaresso.
|
We really enjoyed Rosa Rossa Pizzeria in the San Marco area.
A short walk away is Osteria Barababao, where we had a wonderful 3-course meal for 20 Euros each. Cross the bridge at Campo S. Bartolomeo, walk past the store called Coin and turn right at the church. |
When visiting with my parents, we ended up at Ae Oche several times because one of them was a four minute walk from our hotel (there are 3-4 of them in Venice). It's not stellar stupendous pizza, but it's good pizza. It has a really good beer menu - you can find German and Belgian favorites there. Cheap date, too.
They also serve sgroppino, which, while not quite as good as the sgroppino at Taverna San Trovaso (after much taste testing, Taverna San Trovaso has THE BEST sgroppino!!), is still pretty darn good. Very near San Marco, but not cheap, is Osteria San Marco. One of my favorites, actually. OSM is on Frezzeria very near the gondola ranch which is near the Correr end of Piazza San Marco - through a sotoportego. Bacino Orseolo, if memory serves? I always call it the gondola ranch because there are so many of them! http://www.osteriasanmarco.it/en/dove-siamo.php |
Thanks, flygirl ;)
We have a couple of beer lovers with us so the addition of a good beer menu seals the deal for pizza at Ae Oche! Elnap29: I'll check out Osteria Barababao for the second night! I really appreciate the help I always get here. It's important that I maximize the time on the ground in Venice as I know it will be packed with tourists. |
The one on Calle Tintor is less likely to be inundated with tourists than the other locations. It's not near any main drag - it's near La Zucca, as a matter of fact (also a good place to check out, perhaps for lunch). It was early July and we never had to wait - in fact walked in each night (no rez) and at least one night sat outdoors.

Al Vecio Canton is a pizzeria/restaurant near San Marco that might work for your group.
