Liechtenstein trains
Next month I will be in Europe for a few weeks. I plan on visiting Vaduz , Liechtenstein for a couple hours .
I have a Europe Global Pass, since the pass doesn't include Liechtenstein. Do I just buy a ticket from Sargans, Switzerland to Vaduz? Do I also buy a ticket from Vaduz to Feldkirch, Austria? Or will bus tickets from these towns be cheaper. I will be in Lucerne on my way to Innsbruck, Austria. Thanks for any help. |
The short railway track crossing Liechtenstein is owned and operated by ÖBB(Austrian Railways) and Eurail/Interrail passes are valid on it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feldki...3Buchs_railway You don"t need to buy anything in addition to your railpass if you're just passing through, but in case you want to see Vaduz taking a bus from Sargans and than to Feldkirch is easier than taking a train to Schaan and another bus to Vaduz. https://blog.eurail.com/visit-liechtenstein-rail/ You can find the local train and bus schedules here: https://www.liemobil.li/ If you travel light you could try the interesting backdoor route into Liechtenstein, getting off the train in Sevelen and walking across the Rhine into Liechtenstein over the old wooden footbridge. Liechtenstein railway service is provided by ÖBB, the Austrian Railways.* If your pass is the Eurail Global Pass you find in the fine print that the (one and only) railway line that goes through Liechtenstein is covered (bottom of page 1): Attachment 2848 |
And the same goes for Monaco which is part of the SNCF(French Railways) network. The only train stopping in Monaco where the railpasses are not valid is the weekly Nice-Moscow train operated by RZhD(Russian Railways).
As for the other microstates of Europe: Luxembourg has it's own railway(CFL) which is part of Eurail/Interrail, but domestic trains are going to be free of charge in next year anyway. https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...transport-free Andorra never had a railway.
