L'Hotel...Do Tell!
 

Has anyone stayed in this hotel in Paris? Everything I read says that it is a happening spot...can anyone who has stayed here or visited the bar weigh in? Thanks!

I don't know, jas. But I plan to stop in for a drinkie-poo (well doesn't that sound sophisticated and hip) in April. I'll let ya know. ; )

I just stayed at l'hotel, and they have done some fantastic renovations (last year) making the cover of just about every issue of interior design magazines... there are several nook and crannies for drinks, including sofas with overstuffed pillows tucked into a nook, or along walls filled with wonderful books. You can't go wrong having a drink here!

It was featured in several French ID magazines, the one I bought to bring home was 'ELLE'maison... I love going there for drinks, and have since 1993, so the renovation blew me away! <BR><BR>It is VERY expensive to stay there, however, a drink or two is a wonderful way to relax and enjoy your company...<BR><BR>BTW, once they served salty potato chips for a 'snack' with our drinks, we almost laughed until we saw them 'composed' perfectly on a pretty porcelain plate! To this day when I entertain, if someone HAS to have chips, on a pretty plate they go!<BR><BR>As posted above, the address is 13, rue des beaux arts, the 'address' the modern day version of the movie 'Sabrina' (with Harrison Ford/Greg Kinnear) was filmed, at the end when Harrison ford asked her father for the address. <BR><BR>The staff is so gracious for such an exquisite property, and no need to dress to the nines either.<BR><BR>It is famous for Oscar Wilde having died there in one of the rooms, and the interior lobby has a fantastic (look up when you walk in) 6 story (what I call an inside out tower of Pisa) narrow in width circular balcony for each floor, with the 'wedding cake' frieze/design, where you are able to look 'down' into the lobby...<BR><BR>There is no sign on the street ... only a copper/brass rams head figurine lit dinly over the door. High profile celebrities appreciate the lack of signage!<BR><BR>A must for anyone who loves fabrics and texture in interior design!<BR><BR>I'm taking 16 people there for 'drinks' in April, and when I asked, I knew they 'should' balk at me, but they were very gracious and said to just call that morning.<BR><BR>If you are in the neighborhood, and walk over to L'hotel, look for the white 'feet' painted prints on the sidewalk... the area is filled with art galleries, and they offer art 'hops/walks' once or twice a month. When they do, follow the feet to the doorsteps of participating galleries for fun after drinks!

Wendy: I do not know whether you checked the web page of L'Hotel I gave above, but there is are some beautiful picture of "la coupole" and of the rooms. I like the small cozy bar as well.<BR>

LOL~what a way for a person to be remembered!!" and in this room, the maid died.Yes,she was old and overworked.And right down the hall, that pompous person from the States passed away while writing to Fodors, we never did find out what he was writing, hope it was a good review.."<BR>The hotel we stayed in last time in Paris had the distintion of Ben Franklin staying there, the hotel was formerly the English Embassy, as far as I know, no one died there!
