Leysin Switzerland driving at night

Does anyone know how safe it is to drive from Aigle to Leysin at night the first week of October?
We are looking to stay in Leysin due to a condo opportunity and driving to Aigle to take train day trips.
We are planning to take a train from Aigle to Stresa and spend one night. After touring Lake Maggiore for the day the train would arrive back in Aigle around 8:45PM.

I am concerned about the drive from the Aigle train station to Leysin in the dark.
I understand the roads have a lot of turns up and down.
Thank you for any help.

An added note:
We have driven the Road to Hana - Maui in the dark and we have driven mountain roads in the US. I was just wondering if the road is wide enough for two cars to pass safely in total darkness. Things I read speak negatively about the road leading to Leysin, but I would think that the college students in Leysin would travel to another city at night to eat.

At night, I'd worry about bambi but the roads are never a problem. Once the eyes have adapted, I'm always amazed how much you can see in almost total darkness. I've driven high mountain passes in the moonlight, it doesn't get much better than that.

Don't worry, you can do it too. I just would get accustomed to the car first.

Hi betsy3,

Of course, there is convenient and frequent train service between the two, so you don't really have to put yourselves through that anxiety --

Thanks everyone for the encouragement.

By the way, we plan to visit Lauterbrunnen and the surrounding areas after Leysin.
It has to be after Leysin due to the timing of the condo and work schedule.

Then we plan to take the Bernina Express from Chur down to Italy and back. We are considering returning the same day due to time. It would take an extra day to travel to Milan with having to take another train and we will have already visited Stressa during the condo visit. So I thought we could just catch the Bernina Express on the way back.

Anyone have suggestions on which station to get off and spend some time waiting for the return train? I do not want to get off the train too soon and miss any good sites of beauty.
Thanks again!

Poschiavo would be the logical turning point (and spending some time) for the Bernina Express. But it's still an awful long day on the trains and you won't really experience much of the countryside - which is a shame.

What do Milan and Stresa have to do with the Bernina Express? If I'd stay overnight after the Bernina Express it would definitely not be in Milan.

Ingo >What do Milan and Stresa have to do with
the Bernina Express?<

Sorry this does sound confusing. I agree completely that I am confused.
As I plan this trip, I realize that I should have made my fodors name “confused”. Everyone wants to see all of Switzerland and the budget will not always allow.

Possible plans: We will be taking the train from Aigle to Stresa earlier in the week while at the Leysin condo. We will spend one night at Stresa and hopefully take the day ferry along Lake Maggiore.

Someone I know suggested us to take the Bernina Express, spend the night in Milan and then travel the train to Stresa, but this would take too long. So I decided on the regular train from Aigle to Stresa as stated above for one night.

Then do the Bernina Express a week later from Chur.

Now back to the Bernina Express dilemma. You sound similar with the Bernina Express which is great. And I do appreciate all help!
Question: If we have only one night to stay over riding the Bernina Express and returning the next day what would you suggest in the way of place and etc?

Thanks a bunch!!!
