Length of stay in Wroclaw, Krakow, and Prague?
 

Hi,

I am traveling to Poland in a couple weeks, and have no idea how/where to spend my time. I fly into Wroclaw, and then thought of going to Krakow and then wanted to visit prague for a couple of days. I have a week to do so (arrive on a Friday and leave the next Friday). How long do you suggest staying in each place? I was thinking 2 full days in Krakow, but that is how far I got in planning. Is it worth two days in Wroclaw? Or should I spend two full days in Prague instead (I'd have the afternoon in Wroclaw if I spent two days in Krakow and two in Prague, because of train travel time etc).

Any suggestions at ALL would be helpful!!

We enjoyed each of the three towns you've mentioned, but I bet you'll have lots of votes for spending more time in Prague and/or Krakow. Wroclaw is a lovely mid-size river city with a gorgeous large, old-style square with lots of outdoor dining, a nice zoo and an interesting Cyclorama. I assume you already have round-trip plane tickets to Wroclaw, so I'd vote for eliminating either Krakow or Prague to cut down on the travel time.

Since Prague is one of my very favorite cities, I'd spend two nights in Wroclaw, then train to Prague on Sunday and spend 4 nights there, returning to Wroclaw Thursday. You can always do a day trip out of Prague (Karlstejn Castle?) if you're still ambitious.

If you really want to see both Krakow and Prague, head to Krakow on Saturday, spend two nights there and 3 nights in Prague. Only you can decide if the briefer views of each city is worth it. Have a great time!

I think that Wroclaw is the duller of the three.

You need to decide what you want to see in Krakow has two or three great museums, church etc. It has concentration camps (you do need to prepare yourself emotionally and you may find a half day visit effects you for the rest of your life) and salt mines. All very different

Prague is probaly the most beautiful and can consume all the time you want to give it

We visited Prague and Krakow during the same trip last summer with a stop off in Olomouc - which was the surprise highlight of the trip. I don't know anything about Wroclaw though.

We flew into and out of Prague with RT day trains to Krakow. We took 1st class to take advantage of the air conditioned carriages.

You need to check opening times of the sites you would like to see, I try to spend weekends in big cities and museum- closed-days travelling or in small towns.

For your schedule perhaps:
Fri: Wroclaw arrive, if no jet lag, direct to Krakow
Sat, Sun: Krakow
Visit of the model city was very interesting, Auschwitz-Birkenau tour (afternoon if possible)
Sunday night: overnight train to Prague
Mon, Tues, Wed: Prague
Wed pm; train to Olomouc
Thursday: train to Wroclaw

Krakow is beautiful. We stayed at a wonderful small hotel directly on the main square.
The Hotel Wenzel.
They saw that we would need some help with our luggage,and so sent one of their "Porters " in the taxi with us to the train station. He then proceeded to take our luggage to the train,and directly onto the overhead in our compartment!!
On weekends there is a great polka band playing in the square.
You will enjoy the city
In Prague we stayed at the Hotel Palace. Very nice.

Read Norman Davies about Wrocław . The city was German as Breslau. The Germans held out here long after the war was over. The Spiż Restaurant has the best Mexican food in Europe and brews its own beer. Try the Olympia Hotel. It is located at the 1936 Olympic venue site. Most of the facility is still intact. A tram stops there. We thought the National Museum better than the Racławice Panorama.
