Yes, I did fly TAP Air once (at least) and we were delayed, but that was some time ago. I actually received compensation about a year after the flight after bringing my “case” to Airhelp. The email I received today came from this email: [Removed]

What do you think?

KTtravel Jun 9th, 2023 10:14 PM

I think it might be real and worth investigating. I suggest calling the airline's Customer Service department and inquiring.

bilboburgler Jun 9th, 2023 10:53 PM

me too. Don't click, ring the company

rialtogrl Jun 9th, 2023 11:07 PM

it is a scam. You should ask a moderator to remove the links.

If your flight was delayed then you are entitled to compensation under EU law.
It is rare for an airline to volunteer such information even though they are legally obliged to do so. The sum being offered doesn't sound like one of the legally required amounts though.
Google EU 261 to find out more.

Also €135 is a weird number IIRC.

Can you post full headers for the message? Also when you hover over the link (DON'T click it) does your system show where it's sending you?

Final point that link you posted is that it? That's not going to Tap. That's going to something in the .mk domain. I'd remove the link or at least make it a non link

green.poc.mk???

Its almost certainly a scam. To make 100% sure, you could phone TAP's customer service. But I personally wouldn't bother. Definitely do not click on any links or open any attached files.

It IS a scam. If the twitter link I posted above does not show up, TAP also notified people on their facebook page.

I have received several of these emails, including one today.

And your Netflix account has been suspended and your UPS package couldn't be delivered and your McAfee anti-virus subscription (that you don't have) is expiring...

But a guy in Nigeria has money for you!

Hover over the name of the sender to see the email address. Looks suspicious? Select Block This Sender.

Isn't it odd that someone who knows about your ticket doesn't know your name?

nylilly Jun 11th, 2023 04:53 AM

All good points and information. Thank you!

That's an interesting point.

Another incident, in some ways similar to nylily's case: On the evening of May 25th I received an email from British Airways advising me that our flight from Glasgow to Heathrow the next day had been cancelled. The next day I received a text from one of those third party companies that will make a claim for you. They referenced my flight number, the fact that it was cancelled, and said that I would be eligible for compensation. I don't recollect the name of the company, but outfits like this keep a percentage of what you are owed under EU (or in this case, UK) legislation.

How did some party other than the airline have access to my cellular number? I presume that someone with access to airlines' systems (and they need not be working for BA; it could be through another airline or a travel agent, perhaps) would be able to create a list of cancelled or delayed flights and then identify all the PNRs on the flight, and then search for phone numbers or email addresses of those affected by the cancellation. Sneaky.

As an aside, that BA cancellation turned a 12 hour return (Glasgow-London-Halifax) into a 24 hour journey a day after we were supposed to be home, eventually being routed GLA-FRA-YUL-YHZ. That wasn't any fun at all.

I am now filling in the BA form for UK261 compensation. We'll see how that goes.

I don't think it's odd at all that some form letter on flight compensation wouldn't address you by your personal name. It's just a form letter.

BUt since there are notices from TAP on this scam, it obviously is.

I agree that no airline is going to offer you compensation, either, you have to ask for it.

The software that sends out form letters has had the ability to insert names etc forever. All it takes is accessing the database. When I say forever I mean at least since the 1990s. I receive form letters with names etc all the time. Both email and paper .
