left luggage Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey) / Newbury?

My first trip to the UK. Two of us are hoping to visit Highclere Castle on the way from London to Exeter, with at least 1 rolling bag + backpack each. Planning to take train from London to Newbury, taxi to HC. After visit, taxi back to Newbury station then continuing by train to Exeter. Really want to avoid returning to London, booking any local room, or hiring car. Have yet to hear back from HC re: left luggage options there (not that we expect any) or recommendations. Has anyone had experience leaving luggage (for a tip or fee) at any local hotels without being a guest? Any other suggestions? Considering researching coach bus excursions to HC from London and seeing if we could ride one-way, leave luggage on board, then pick luggage up before the group heads back; any experience with such an arrangement? Coordination with driver would have to be perfect. We've already reserved 8th May afternoon entry tickets to HC. Thinking we might also have to ask specially not to buy castle entry ticket from operator, or try to cancel original HC tickets... Where's Carson when you need him? Many thanks!

I have not got any idea about left luggage.
when i lived in the area a few years ago trains that went to Newbury do not carry onto Exeter. You will have to go back to Reading or even London to carry on to Exeter.
Maybe when you book your taxi ask if they can store your luggage?

Some of the late afternoon trains from London to Exeter do stop at Newbury. Check the timetable at www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk.

We are faced with the same dilemma on our upcoming trip in May 2014. How was your visit to the castle and how did you solve the left luggage problem?

We were at Highclere in May. We wanted to take the train from London but that option did not work as the trains were not at convenient times (or I could not find any online). We were staying in London for the week so we rented a car for the day and drove out there. A fairly easy drive and a wonderful day altogether. Well worth the effort.
