Lecce - any thoughts?
I will be spending 6 days in Lecce in September. Have booked our accommodation. We plan to visit Otranto, Alberobello and Gallipoli. We are not hiring a car and will be travelling everywhere by bus or train. Is there anything we shouldn't miss.

Sorry, more information:-
Six adults (4 of whom are art teachers) and two girls aged 10 and 14 years. Our interests include art, food, the beach and walking and anything "off the beaten track", as well as things that teenagers might like to do as well. Thanks again. P |
Search under my screen name and you will come up with my "Party in Puglia" for 11 days and nights. We recently returned and LOVED it. Spent three nights in Lecce. Everything was great. We did have a car though and it is highly recommended, if you can.
Let me know if you need any other info. |
I cannot imagine seeing southern Puglia without a car. It will not be easy by bus.

Lecce is beautiful. You have good train connections to all the towns you want to see with trips between an hour and two hours. I'd also add the white city of Ostuni to your list and the old quarter of Bari. Both on the main train line.

I thought the cathedral in Trani was magnificent. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone for your comments, as usual they are all very helpful. I would love to hire a car I think it would be a really good idea, I will have to keep working on my friends and see if I can convince them also.
Thanks again. P |
