Leaving Wednesday for Scotland and Ireland
What should we take for clothes? Will be in Edinburgh and area and then week wandering around Ireland starting and ending in Dublin.
Standard answer; layer. It's airy in Scotland just now, and whilst you'll get away with a long sleeved shirt during the day, you will need a sweater at night.
Robert:

Take a very warm jacket. You won't be sorry.

Enjoy your trip.
We are headed there also. How "dressy" is Edinburgh while sight seeing and then for dinner in an average "casual" type place?
There are _very_ few places you would not be comfortable in smart casual.
I did not find Edinburgh to be a real dressy place. People were clean and groomed, but style wasn't a big issue with their dressing.
I spent 3 1/2 weeks in May & June in Great Britain. It rained everyday except for 4 days and it was cold. Bring warm clothes esp. for Scotland. It was at the highest 60 degrees Fahrenheit. You will have a ball though!!
Robert, depending on how "warm" you need to be, layers are the answer. We visited Scotland and Northern and Western Ireland in October and we did well with jackets and shirts. But, if you are prone to being cold, you may want to add fleece etc... In Northern Minnesota terms, it's not that cold in October. It can be (oh all right) will be wet... but it's like that anyway. Have a grand time!
