Leaving tomorrow, credit card stolen will reservations hold?

Yesterday the bank cancelled my Visa card (the one I used to make all my reservations.) Do I have to call every hotel now, or can I wait till I get my new credit card and give it to them when I get there. (There are 5 hotels involved). Thanks.

Hotels often charge the card before you arrive (6pm day of check-in)and might release the room if they can't charge the first night. I would call the hotels or send an e-mail with the new credit card details.

I once had a problem with my AMEX card which I had used to gurantee my room in Rome. When I got there at midnight, there was no room :( They told me they had tried to put through the charge earlier that day and when thye could not, they gave the room away. (The found another hotel for me and was back there the following day, but it WAS inconvenient!)

They will undoubtedly take another card. Demand of your credit card company to overnight your card. They can do that with NO problem.

Thanks for the suggestions. The card should be arriving tomorrow morning. (I am leaving in the afternoon.) Hopefully I will have enough time to call all the hotels with the new card info.) Thanks again, Peggy

Peggy,

Ask your CC card company for a tracking number and make sure they send it out as agreed. Ask if they will send to Europe if they don't get it to you on time. Get the names of the people and tell them you are "counting on them"...accountability helps.

1. I wanted a card overnighted and the bank sent it out 2nd day air to save a couple of bucks. It didn't arrive in time(it was my backup card) and I closed the account.

2. Another time when I hadn't received my replacement card, I called up and found out that security had put a hold on the new card. Security didn't understand why a card that "hadn't been used in months was being overnighted".

I finally figured out that this "rent-a-cop" was checking the new number which I hadn't received because he was holding it up.

Hmmmm...I wonder if she got her card in time.

Yes, thank you. I got my card and everything is OK! I'm leaving in 1 hour. Thanks for all the advice, fodorites.

Well, she didn't need to call or e-mail ANY of the hotels since they wouldn't have trtied to put charges through unless she was a no-show on one of the nights...if they were going to charge one night in advance they would have done so by now.

Thanks everyone. I was able to keep all my reservations, but, I did email the hotels, and in 2 cases, reservation services. That is where most of the confusion arose. Venere.com did not have a good method of dealing with what must be a very common problem. They wanted me to email me my new credit card number, and they had no way of accepting it in a secure manner since it was not a new reservation. (I had promised Visa fraud division that I would never email a CC # again.) After many emails to Venere, and phone calls to the Hotel Andreola in Milan, they finally said they would hold the room without credit card. I guess alls well that ends well.

Are you saying that your credit card number was stolen supposedly from your sending its number via email when you made the reservations originally?

Sorry if I don't understand but that's what I think you're saying. If so, how did Visa know this was the cause?
