We liked Set Portes, met a lot of fun people there, the restaurant was very lively. Another suggestion would be Cal Pep, the tapas bar (any tapas bar for that matter), they are very social as you stand at a counter and order what you like. We found Barcelona to be a very young, fun place. You can't go wrong with the Riojas wines, the Spanish wines are all reasonable and good.

Barcelona, like the rest of Spain, is for those who enjoy great food and wine. Most neighborhood taverns, not much different than what you would find in Paris, offer excellent cuisine, except in Spain, including Barcelona, food is extremely important and very sociable. There are a number of inexpensive places to have lunch or dinner, and there are tapas bars everywhere, most with family restaurants. You can't get more authentic than a neighborhood tapas bar. And yes, you will meet people your age where ever you go.

Are you flying to Girona on Ryanair? I believe there is a shuttle bus service available.

I'm going to be rather blunt..for 11 Euros and with a DIRECT connection from the airport to downtown Barcelona I'd say you are getting off pretty cheap for the type of service you are getting.

Definately at the tapas bar, where you can order nibbles and stand meeting the locals.

Definitely head here for cheap food, cheap cava and mingling:

The Champagneria in Carrer Reina Christina (near Barceloneta Metro stop). It's only open till 22h30 and crowded from 19h00 but it's great for young people!

Another cheap and great place is Les Quinze Nits on Plaza Reial. If you see a queue on the square, it's for this restaurant. Traditional food and unbeatable prices! Enjoy!
