Leaving on Friday! Coat question
 

Are we better off wearing winter wool coats or rain trenches with sweaters under. With the accuweatehr temps it could go either way for us.

I'm going to Amsterdam. I can't believe I left that out! I'm a little crazy this week.

Well, I live a bit south in Lausanne and the temperatures dropped yesterday from the mid-60's to high 20's/low 30's and it has been snowing all day. According to wunderground.com, the weather in Amsterdam is going to be mid-40's and raining until Thursday and then just cloudly but still cool. I'd go with the rain coats since it's raining.

I'm always a fan of the versatility of a rain coat. They can be warm enough to keep you comfortable, but for me it is much more important to remain dry. I can handle cool and dry, I can't handle cool and wet.

It doesn't look dressy, but when I travel, I like to wear my North Face ski shell and fleece. You can decouple them, and the fleece is perfect on a cool, dry spring day, while the shell is waterproof in teh event that it rains. Then, for travel, I can zip them together and stow them as one coat.

Well we had snow this morning, it is going to freeze tonight...but from Friday it is going to start to warm up again, and be a bit more stable according to the KNMI (Dutch weather service.
I would bring a raincoat, and a fleece or something that you can wear if it is dry but cool. Normal daytime temp then is around 10deg C, but can be up to 16 or down to 2. SHowers are normal. Hopefully no more snow though!
