Leaving Luggage After Checkout
I posted this a few days ago but it didn't come up in Spain.
We will be leaving Madrid, Seville and Granada in the evening after checking out in the morning.
Does anyone have any experiences leaving suitcases at the hotel (Carlos V, Juderia, Reina Cristina) after checkout?

I've never been refused free luggage storage after checking out. Any decent hotel will do this for you.
|
We have done this several times when necessary (but not in Spain). Just get receipt tickets and try to watch them put it in storage. A small tip at the end is usual.
|
This is a pretty universally-accepted and expected courtesy that any hotel worth its salt does every day.
As recommended, get a receipt, and watch someone put your bags in a safe place.
|
Thanks.
I've done this on previous trips but never in Spain. Paris, Switzerland, Italy.
Never got a receipt or was offered one. Sometimes the suitcases were not placed in very secure areas. Depended on each hotel's facilities. That's why I'm a little concerned with Spain.
With the crime rate increasing not just Spain but all over, why would anybody rob a person when they can just walk into a hotel and wander around?

We did this throughout our trip to Spain this past summer and never had any problems. We never got receipts, but in most cases the bags were stowed in a locked closet so I was not really worried about them.

Hi Myer,
A bicycle cable won't take up much luggage space, and since you know you may encounter this situation as many as three times, you may want to take one along on your trip.

If you have more than one large suitcase/bag and you don't think they have been stored in a secure place, use the bicycle cable to tie all your (locked of course) bags together. It's much more difficult for a thief to nonchalantly walk off with 2 good sized suitcases and a couple of carry-ons all attached to each other.

Just an idea...
|
Actually I didn't think of someone just walking off with the suitcases. I thought of taking some of the contents. Actually your thought is more likely as someone might nonchalantly walk off with a piece of luggage but might not want to take the time to go through looking for things of value.
Good idea bicycle cable.
