Leaving for Paris tommorrow!!!

Just wanted to share my enthusiasm- I don't really have any questions. I'm kind of sad about all the prospects of cold weather- I don't like the snow here in Indiana. But we're packed and ready to go! I'm so excited, but at the same time, I'm kind of sad. We'll be leaving our 20 month old with my mom and dad for the week (we return on the 11th) and I've never been away from him for more than one night. My mom assures me that I'll be ok- that all parents have to get away- and blah blah blah. Sigh. I'll have to buy him something special from ole' Paris.

Exercise control. You will find tons of stuff appropriate to bring back for a little guy. Just remember: you can't buy everything. (It didn't work with my wife, either.)

This will be an important purchase. For the rest of his life, your son will remember it as the item mom bought after she left me as an infant and flew off to Paris!!

Have a great trip!

Come on! You are a tough girl from girl from Indiana!!! If you can handle the snow there, you can handle a minor dusting in Paris. I'm off to Paris for the weekend on Saturday so I'm very excited - I go twice a year but the fascination never fades. You will have a fantastic time. As for your baby, I can't say it will be easy for you. I am sans enfant myself but my best friend always has a nightmare whenever she leaves her baby. The only thing I can say is that Paris is full of so much wonder, so many beautiful sights, and is so sexy that I recommend that you simply immerse yourself in the moment. It will be with you for a lifetime.

Also, this website has excellent live webcams, if you want to see how the weather is:

Click on 'webcams' on the left hand side, then 'webcams' again in orange, then you have a big list to choose from..

I think it was more than a minor dusting. I get news items from major French agencies on my ISP homepage, and this morning they said a lot of flights were cancelled at both CDG and Orly because of the snow and all runways were closed but one at CDG.

ghanima22 - I can understand your mixed emotions! Just try to remember that while you're going to miss your son, he is too young to really have any concept of time and while it might seem like a long time to be away from him, he won't realize it. It will be much harder on you than it will him!

Just try to keep busy and use the time for you and your husband (I'm assuming here) to focus on each other. And what could be more romantic than Paris?

Have a great time!

Here's the weather report I received directly from Paris this morning:

Nous sommes en ce moment en plein hiver : il neige, même à Paris. Cela fait bien des années qu'on avait pas vu ça ici . La neige ne tient pas
évidemment, mais il fait froid. On commence à avoir un début de petit climat continental. Cela va durer parait-il encore une bonne semaine. Les
autoroutes sont parfois fermées : c'est fou ce que 5 cm de neige peuvent faire pour désorganiser le trafic routier et les aéroports.

I love the way the French dress their children and babies. Like little dolls. Jacadi ( Simon Says) has great clothing. There are several stores in Paris.

Have a great trip!

We don't have any snow on the streets or sidewalks of the 11th arrondissement this evening. Some cars that have been driven into the city have up to two inches of snow on top. The key thing to remember is vin chaud! (warm wine, with cinnanmon and a little slice of orange.)

ghanima, Have a beautiful trip. And I know you will miss your little one but just think how much spoiling your Mom and Dad will do. You will probably be pulling your hair out when you return home, LOL!

And I agree with your Mom, it is good for a couple to get away from time to time.

Enjoy every moment.

Paris at any time of the year is wonderful. If it makes you feel any better, our daughter was 20 months old when we took our first trip without her -- also to Paris (business trip for me, with the opportunity for mr_go to tag along). She is now 12 and none the worse for it. Have a great time!

I hear a rumor that there's great views of the city from Pere Lechaise cemetary in the wintertime. Can anyone confirm this?
