Leaving for Ireland in exactly one week, packing tips?

We will be arriving in Ireland the 19 and I still don't know exactly what to pack. We (four of us) are touring via CIE tour group. So any ideas anyone? What to bring and what not to bring, perhaps? And where I can buy these necessities? Thanks for responses.

We were in Ireland the third week of March. I packed (for my husband and myself)cotton turtlenecks, cotton sweaters, cotton slacks jeans suade jackets and black waterproof shoe boots and umbrellas. As it rained some every day we were there it turned out to be perfect. We did layers in order to take off or put on. Going the 19th I might make the turtlenecks short sleeve. I put each of my underwear and each of my husbands underwear in zip-lock plastic bags. As we showered and put on fresh, we put our soiled in the plastic bag and pitched them. (we had shopped at the dollar store and purchased cheap undies)It saved carting around dirty underwear and made a little space for some shopping. We will do this again. Have a great vacation!

Unless you'll be dining in expensive restaurants, no need to pack anything too fancy. Nice pair of dark slacks will be fine. Two pairs of good walking shoes, a good lightweight rain jacket with hood, sweaters to layer underneath. (Think San Francisco weather.) Ireland was one of the least complicated trips to pack for since we didn't stay in any large cities. Everything is very casual. Jeans are fine if you like to wear them.

I did a CIE tour in October 1999. Loved it. Which tour are you taking? The reason I ask is that I packed WAAAAY to much stuff but I was glad I had brought a dressy outfit to wear on an evening at a nice restaurant we went to. You'll be able to purchase any you'll forget. Every hotelhad all the amenities. Hairdryer, toiletries, etc. Be sure to bring a waterproof jacket of some type, perhaps with a removable liner. Warm sweater or two. Wear your heavier jacket on the plane. You will not be doing too much hiking or such, so wear comfortable shoes but not necessarily hiking type shoes. You will be sitting on a climate controlled bus for stretches at a time, so you'll be ok while motoring. Your heavy suticase will be under the bus but there are overhead shelves to hold your things during the trip. We had Mike as our Driver and Alocoque as our guide and we had a wonderful time. Hope you do too!. Any more questions please ask!!!

Packing advice: pack everything you think you'll need. Close suitcase. Open up suitcase. Take out half of everything. And you still won't use all of that.

I really hate the advice of buying underwear just to throw out. Underwear doesn't take up any real room, since you just pack it in your shoes, or in those tiny spaces in which nothing else will fit. Or if you truly feel the need to leave you dirty underwear in garbage cans all over the world, at least take you old underwear that you were going to throw out anyway.

when I pack shoes, I tear a dryer sheet and put them in each shoe..keeps shoes nice. Usually it is a dryer sheet I keep in my suitcase when it is not being used.

Hi Dan, I'll be leaving with a CIE tour on May 1. Not sure which tour you're taking but on my previous tour of Ireland they requested that we dressed casual-nice for evening dinners. Maybe bringing one jacket wouldn't be a bad idea. I also bring washcloths as some hotels don't have them readily avail. Like the previous poster said wear layers. I personally bring enough undies for the amt. of time you're staying so I don't have to worry about having them cleaned. I bring 2 sets of clothes one for day and one for eve. and mix & match for the time we're there. 12nts= 5,6 day & night outfits. My inlaws like to bring much less. Have a wonderful time!!!!!!! Oh yes don't forget to leave room for souvenirs!

My husband and I are taking a CIE "Irish Welcome" tour on 4/18. Thanks for all of the great paking suggestions. I've been told to take less and don't worry about wearing the same things twice as long as it's clean. Extra shoes & socks are a must, and layering always works.
Hope you have a good time.

Ruth. We are taking that same tour... that same week!! How strange is that? The week of April 18. We are taking the 10 day. I have heard all good about CIE; looking forward to experiencing it. See you there!! And thanks all for the packing tips, I still have to recognize that I should keep my packing light.

Dan And Ruth:
Please let me know how your trip went.
I was very pleased with CIE's service and choice of hotels.
The thing I remeber most was being a fog the first day. We started sightseeing about 6 hours after we landed in Shannon!
Enjoy your trip!

If you expect to wear your outfits a second time, you should pack a spray bottle of Febreeze. The pubs are very smokey. You may also want to pack a large plastic bag to put your smokey clothes in before putting them in your suitcase with the clean clothes.

Take mainly long sleeves. You probably won't ever need a short sleeve shirt. It is unlikely temperatures in April will make it past the low 60s and probably stay in the 50's.

Average highs in April are about 52-55F dependending where you are.

Judy, while dryer sheets may make your clothes smell fresh, many may be alergic with such closeness to them. If it sounds like a good idea, I'd rub one on my chest and inhale a good bit to see if you react to them. Better at home than away.
