We always try to keep as little cash as possible and keep credit cards in a neck pouch under our shirt along with
our passports at all times if we are on a tour going from one hotel to another each day; if you will be staying in one place, leave your passport in hotel safe and keep photocopies in suitcase and at home with relatives and on your person. My husband keeps a photocopy of his AND mine on him; and I keep one of mine AND his on me. You will only need enough cash for things that you can't use a credit card for (fast food, small souvenirs) pay by credit card for the rest; it is safer for everyone. DO notify credit card companies prior to leaving of the countries you will be visiting; otherwise they may not approve the purchase; also make sure you have written down the country codes for any phone cards you might be using to call the U.S. Also carry emergency numbers with you of U.S. Embassys in Spain in case of any emergencies. Spain is wonderful!! Have a great trip!

Hi Estrellita, I keep all valuables either in my belt or in my room's safe .

1) remember that you are most vulnerable when checking in and out of the hotel,at trains stations, airports and particularly if you should you check out from a hotel and have to wait a few hours for your plane.

2)Be careful in Spain when for instance you are siting in a cafe and someone approches you to ask i.e.
to polish your shoes or sell some inexpensive item ..etc. I believe they are like scouts to figure out where do you keep your money, if you have an expensive camara on the table etc ....so always carry some small change in your pocket so you do not give away any information that could be used later to rob you...Do I sound a little paranoic? ...it is the real world.
Being alert and having common sense is all you need. Have a great trip.

Keep your passport in the hotel room safe, this is perfectly secure, a passport to petty thieves is much less valuable than you consider it to be, Always keep at least one colour photocopy of it in a different place to the original. What thieves and petty criminals are really after are easy to sell items, e.g. watches, jewellery and above all cash.
