You can see Mycenae and Epidauros while based in Nafplion. Olympia is the odd person out in terms of location, as it's in the western Peloponnese whereas the other three sites are in the eastern Peloponnese. It's the furthest away.

It really depends on what you're most interested in. Each of these sites (and Crete also) offers different things.

I think there's a lot more to do and experience in Nafplion, than Olympia.

The Olympia archaelogical site & museum are great for a day.

But the seaside town of Nafplion is lovely, has nice shops and cafes, nice walks, important nearby archaelogical sites, and more.

thanks for input, is delphi a must?

"is delphi a must?"

Many, if not most, people would consider it so. Delphi's mountainous setting is especially spectacular. This contrasts with the rolling, pastoral scenery of Olympia (also very pretty).

Delphi (site & museum) can be visited as one very long day trip from Athens, if time is tight. But Delphi is especially nice to visit in early morning or late afternoon, before or after the mid-day hordes of day-tripping tourists.

Also note that Nafplion is visited frequently by Athenians, so the shops and restaurants tend to be of higher quality and less "tourist-tacky" than, say, either Olympia or Delphi.

Hi

All the places mentioned are excellent but Olympia and Delphi are must sees if you're into ancient history. Nafplion is very pretty so if this is what you're after go for it. Myceanae is interesting but you have to use your imagination alot to reconstruct what it would have looked like.

I love, love, love Delphi. It is magical. I much prefer it to Olympia, myself. And yes, as noted, you can do it as a daytrip from Athens. It's a long day but you can nap on the bus (if you take a bus). It's a pretty place to stay overnight, though.

Unfortunately for you it's the opposite direction from Nafplion (coming from Athens). ;-)

Can you imagine Greece without Delphi?
