Leave luggage in van for tour?
 

Hi! I need help with suggestions as to what to do with luggage while we take a tour? 6 of us are taking a train from Rome to Florence, arriving approx 11:30 AM on a Sunday (the car rental office is only open until 12:30 on Sunday). We are renting a Fiat Ulyssee and, since it's a van, there will be no enclosed trunk. We are staying in Radda-in-Chiant - Siena, but wanted to stop at San Gimignano on the way from Florence to Radda.

Those of you with travel experience, please give me some suggestions. I know it's not safe to leave the luggage in the car (is it?) (I've emailed with a couple of people that have taken small bus tours and left luggage in the buses while they went into San Gimignano and they swear it's safe.) I also tried to check the closest train station to San G and, if I did it correctly, that station is Poggibonsi and it does not have a service where you can leave your luggage. Is anyone familiar with a train station/bus station where we could leave our luggage? Any other options?

I don't have my map handy, but seems to me would be easy enough to stop off at Radda to drop your bags and then continue to SG.

smarty is right. San G is not "on the way" to Radda...

Would you leave your luggage in an open van where you live? My guess is no . Perhaps if you go into a hotel nearby and explain your situation and agree on a fee I would think that would work,especially if its a owner operated hotel.You may be able to negotiate online even before you leave.I suggest find a hotel or maybe even better a bed and breakfast contact them. If you don't ask you don't get.lol.You will get help here from all the knowledgable regulars,in fact these guys are so good they will come up with adresses phone numbers and firstnames.Good luck and have a wonderful trip.

If you have a look at a map (or mapquest) you will indeed see the logical solution is to drive the hour to your accomodations in Radda, unload the luggage, and then go to San G.

It will be quieter at San Gimignano a little later in the afternoon anyway. :)
